It would be funny if for a boiler room set, the crowd was sent to an actual boiler room and burnt to a crisp. Well maybe not ha ha funny.

Ah the former, I mean I'm not a fan of SND but can respect their sound. Just the awkward rocking of the bemused perfectly-crafted-unkept-look crowd gets me every time

I think the main problem with BoilerTV is that you listen to soundboard recording, but look at actual space with certain acoustics. It creates sense of alienation, more like performance art practice than entertainment. I'm pretty sure SND set sounded a lot more engaging there, so we're judging something virtual by nature while looking at those videos.

theyve got some good acts on and stuff and i cant really critisize the crowd

This is easily the most awkward and painful Boiler Room I've seen. She's on a label I really like (Leaving Records) and this just well, it just didn't appear to work whatsoever. The comments are fucking brutal. I felt bad for it even occurring, but hey some gigs are just doomed.

and the fact it has gone all hipster is the reason i find it painfull....the DJ Shadow one is horrible to watch but listen it and it's a pretty good mix! and the fact he's actually DJing!

I think for me the question with these always is - why do we want to watch a DJ do very little for an hour with people in the background doing even less. Why does boilerroom tv exist as a thing and not just put out an audio file. I mean fast forward to 38:32 of the above video, what the fuck are we meant to get from this ?

I do actually like to see what going on in the live sets in a geeky tweaky way or if the DJ has some amazing mixing skills but watching a pleb mouth lyrics at a laptop whilst playing a preset playlist is pretty lame imho. Its basically superstar DJ hysteria and deck posing at its very worse.
