Ah the former, I mean I'm not a fan of SND but can respect their sound. Just the awkward rocking of the bemused perfectly-crafted-unkept-look crowd gets me every time

 

 

 

My lady and I went to see Mark Fell recently and she had the exact same same reaction to most of the audience.

While it was nice to stand and listen, with the sonics vibrating your teeth and trousers, she found it very distracting to be confronted by a roomful of sweaty Dalston hipsters trying to outdo each over in how well they 'get' the music.

Weird, I just spend the day browsing through this shit before I knew this thread existed. That same girl, in the same outfit, is in the Shlohmo set, which is full of hilarious kids.

my roommate listens to boiler room pretty much nonstop and from what i've gathered from distant observation it's some kind of room where they spin disco poorly all the time.

There are a lot of really fantastic Boiler Room sets, you guys are just old and becoming irrelevant. No, but really. They bring through lots of really great artists. They also bring through a lot of crap, but they are always always always streaming. I think the Boiler Room is a really cool idea.

I caught the one on the Stubnitz at Bloc the other year with Richie Hawtin, shortly before closure. It was cool but it seemed too many people wanted to get on camera. I can't spot my lovely self.

Fairly cringey, an entire room of people stood rigid straight doing mostly nothing but head-nodding for an hour. Saying that, Madlib's not exactly trying hard to win over the crowd... it's hardly a set to get the place jumping. I know this one is in SF for an after-party - rather than the trad BR-style arrangement of DJ upfront and crowd behind - but Madlib seems to have dodged a bullet by not having a crowd of miserable-looking hipster folk stood directly on top of him for the duration of his performance.

So what does good dancing look like?

I think there needs to be less boiler room, seems to be 2 or 3 a week now judging by the amount of facebook updates I get. Still, if they get enough hits, its all good yeah.
