Saw The World's End last night - the third of the 'Three Colours Cornetto' trilogy.

Absolutely awesome work by Wright, Pegg and Frost. Possibly the best of the trilogy.

Also, perhaps the most drunken action movie ever. The choreography is amazing.

really can't wait. Unlike some others I preferred Hot Fuzz to Shaun of the Dead. I hope it's fantastic.

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

I was in US tjis summer, and eat in KFC. FUCK That's the worst thing i've ever eaten. The flesh simply doesn't cleave to the bones. Battery ferming. And then, foie gras is banned from NY state, because it's considered as ill-treat. IT'S NOT. KFC is tourist ill-treat. YOU POISONERS! Two hours after being to KFC, i stopped in a amsih little town barf all that KFC shit out. Nice work!

So i hope this woman is not like kfc chicken, otherwise she'll be pulled to pieces.

...Really? Haven't seen it yet but I've read a couple of reviews that haven't been quite so favourable. I'm open minded anyway

Yeah, from the Trailer it didn't seem to be that funny but they really get a tonne of mileage from the setup of Pegg being stuck in his own past. I can't really remember exactly how impressed I was after seeing Shaun so its hard to say whether I enjoyed this more or not, but I definitely enjoyed it a hell of a lot. Its got 90% on rotten tomatoes at the moment.

It helps if you're around 40 because all the music and flashbacks will seem instantly familiar.

For example, the film opens to this obscure little number

Shaun is one of my favourite films, so it's going to be tough to beat! Might go see this tomorrow if I can

Saw it this afternoon, one thing that spoilt it for me was too much bloody music. Couldn't have 5mins go by without a tune blasting out, Plus i didn't like the ending :D

Saw this last weekend, found it *quite* funny, but not as full of LOL as I had hoped.

I guess I went in with really high expectations... was hoping for a few more in-jokes and banter between Simon and Nick but this was sadly lacking.

A good few cameo's and a cornetto helped.

I must admit I nearly fell asleep during the end bit where

Can't even remember the characters names, hence Pegg.

6 / 10

was hoping for a solid 8 / 10

I started a thread on this a while back, but no matter. If the reviews are promising, then my anticipation is even greater.

Yeah I felt that scene was a bit rushed. I really liked the "epilogue" a lot, wish they spent a little longer on it.

Overall I enjoyed it a lot. I think I'll watch it more than Shaun of the Dead even. The pacing was surprisingly good. Great cast too.

My wife said she thinks it's the best. I was a little surprised but on further thought I might feel the same. It's a nice balance between the pacing/feel of Shaun and Hot Fuzz where were quite different from each other.

So I dug the beginning, hated the middle, and enjoyed most of the ending.

It felt like a whiny expose on the dangers of addiction and how the 12 step program of AA can help you to realize you are a jerk for blaming all of your problems on other people and how alcoholism keeps persons living in the past.

I couldn't buy the story because Pegg's character is a shit head and I could not get why the fuck anyone would want to hang out with him?

I enjoyed the first two films, Scott Pilgrim(not as much, amazing art direction) and Spaced but I laughed only a few times and the sci-fi part was so random and juvenile, the fight scenes were so silly, the cgi on the notbots was bad, the aesthetic of blue blood, har har, was shitty looking. The cgi statue??? What was the fucking point and why did it look like some shit from a bad Outer Limits episode???

I did enjoy Nick Frost's character but felt that all of the great actors in this film were wasted, not drunk, but not utilized well.

Maybe I will like it more on a second viewing but it left me feeling sad and not wanting to see it again.

Pegg's character reminds me of people I have known, people that won't get out of the past, are self-centered assholes, and are hopeless. How am I supposed to enjoy a character like that? If I were an alcoholic dick and could relate to him on some level, then maybe I would enjoy it but his whole storyline just made me feel bad about humanity and not understand why his friends would even talk to him.

If they would have kept the beginning, shortened the middle, lengthened the end, I think I would have enjoyed it more. The shitty sci-fi middle killed it for me. Sorry Edger Wright lovers but I had to vent.

5/10 for me

Hopefully Ant-Man is amazing.

I thought it was approximately as funny as the other two, and the SF element was delightfully cheesy in the style of Doctor Who.

I love Doctor Who but don't expect it to be emulated in films, which is fine but I would expect a bit more obscure references from Edgar Wright and Pegg.

I also love sci-fi cheesiness, e.g. The Hidden, I come In Peace, Ouatermass and The Pit, The Unarian Introduction Video, etc

The only thing about the SF portion I really enjoyed were the lit up eyes and mouths.

I didn't find it nearly as funny as the other two, but like I said perhaps on a second viewing I will find it more funny, this happens with me and comedies.

They grow on me.

Finally watched it tonight. I was left confused and a little disappointed.

Yeah Pegg's character Gary King wasn't very likeable. He was overbearing and living in the past, expecting his friends from high school who were already far better off in life to relive the "good ol' days". I did like Nick Frost's character though. This time he seemed like a more stoic, mature figure than in Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.

And I'm not so sure I'm sold on the whole thing with humans being assimilated into the Blanks - seems pretty far-fetched. I'm generally a sci-fi fan too, but this just seemed poorly written. And yeah, the humor was lacking. Edgar Wright's predecessor Hot Fuzz was much better I thought.

I will admit that I might have a slight crush on Rosamund Pike though, so that's one redeeming quality.

re: Gary King (Peggs character) ... He's definitely annoying. In a lesser film, he would have followed a very predictable arc in which he discovers responsibility and becomes an adult. But thats not what happens, and that is key to understanding what the film is about ... more on that in the spoiler tag below:

There's a good thread over at metafilter about all the hidden subtexts/easter eggs in the script, here's a few interesting ones:

goes good with some nachos & a soda

^ oh man, just realized how square that post was. looks like it was typed by a 78 year old grandmother.. God, I love cheesiness... and nachos... and bad puns.

i really enjoyed pegg's character. i thought he was a like an extremely juvenile version of richard grant in withnail and i. was hoping the film would grow up a bit and follow that film's sort of tragic lead, but instead it devolved into the usual cheeseball action. some of the action got boring and the second hour definitely left something to be desired, but overall, it's one of the my favorites of the year. this year is one of the worst for film in recent memory, so take that with a grain of salt.
