I started with Oversteps, well I actually started with the most popular tracks on Spotify, then I started listening the newest album at that time, that was Oversteps. I always start by the newest album.

Same here in that I generally start by listening to someone I haven’t heard before by getting their latest. For me with Autechre it was Confield at the time, Personally it was the perfect introduction for me but I would probably recommend Tri Repetae or LP5 as a 1 off album for an introduction as they give you a better idea of their overall sound than their 1st 2 albums but are nicely accessible.

Accessibility is strange one with Autechre though, I found confield very accessible but then took my sweet time getting into draft when it came out. Also took me awhile to appreciate amber and chiastic slide.

Someone made a good point with the EP’s though. Even if you didn’t go for the box set I would say get Envane & Cichlisuite them 2 are some of Autechre’s best stuff IMO and would make an nice introduction to their sound...

The first release I heard was Amber but I didn't like it and just dismissed Autechre for a while. Then I got Move of Ten and worked back in reverse chronological order.

Just make sure you hear every release before deciding you don't like them, as I personally prefer their post-LP5 material dramatically and may have never bothered listening if I'd gone chronologically and not liked the first few.

Start cronologically; not from Lego Feet, but from the earliest of their predecessors and influences. Read some books about music history from the paleolihtic to ancient Greece, start listening to medieval era music and work your way from there. I'd say Gregorian chants are a good starting point. You won't get Autechre's music otherwise.

Nah, I 'd say to just pick one randomly. The gods of Autechre will be with you. So don't be afraid of the journey. Embrace the uncertainty.

I've decided to take the plunge and buy the EP set for £30 from Bleep!

just don't give up when you hear cavity job, lol

I started by having incunabula through to quaristice (plus all the ep's) set to random on my screenless mp3 player, lol. Being unaware of track titles and which track was from which album actually boosted the listening experience greatly. It was just an exciting mixed journey of sound.

I would say 'Exai'. It's an amazing album, it's beautifully produced, and while it's got hidden depths it's also exciting on a surface level and pretty 'in yer face.'

Call me a latecomer but I got into the live sets first like Glasgow School of Art and Bloc although getting into the Untilted era kinda made a lot of the earlier stuff seem a tad basic.

Like that! and think its pretty spot on. I would always tend to suggest Tri-Repetae as an intro for that reason really, also its awesome and to my way of thinking anyone into techno type shit should love that album from the off.
