Yes, it's that old chestnut again - should we have a (sub)forum dedicated to 'media' - games, movies, books, television, etc. - or do we leave things as they are?

Considering how much we discuss media here almost as much as we discuss electronic music, I think it might serve to have those topics off on their own, and leave General Banter as a "everything else" forum that doesn't neatly fit into any of the other subforums.

What are your thoughts on it?

If we do that, general banter will pretty much only be about political discussion and funny links. A political discussion forum would be better.

I'm fine with a media section. But, chances are the lines will get blurred & media topics will just be posted in the general banter section anyway.

Thanks user487363530. And user4873635301. Now 48736353001.

That would probably move about half the general banter posts out, which seems like a good idea. It would reduce calls for more subforums, like politics, etc. as those threads would get more breathing room in general banter. As it stands, general banter is the only forum on the site where you can't see posts from yesterday on the first page.

what for ? it's like meeting up with friends and having to go to a different room when the topic changes to "media". keep the banter fluid and unified, i say.

the same logic can be applied to music forum as well but there are pretty distinctive groups of people on watmm, those who are interested in music only and those who are interested in music and everything else as well, so it makes sense to divide it, even autechre commended it in some interview so there's no going against that. but for genban - not really.

i'm for it. i think over time, as we all become familiar with the change, that everything would fall neatly into its places

Yeah.

I like seeing all different topics in General Banter and I can read whichever takes my fancy.

Having to go to the "Discuss Yellow Objects Here" subforum if I want to read discussions about something yellow is too much effort.

I like the idea of going to a subforum and seeing a list of all the recent media discussion topics. Sounds good to me. Otherwise one has to browse the cluster of gen ban.

There will be new love from the ashes of us.

I always use the "View New Content", so subforums are not relevant for me.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

This

I prefer to keep it as is. In a specific subforum for politics/media/whatever the banter-part of the discussion tends to get lost. I think those discussions deserve some air for banter as well. If it becomes all serious, it'll lose much of its watmm character. Which is not good!

In short: Keep it in gen ban, please!

I for one don't participate in film and tv discussions as much for this reason.

I'm hardly a closed minded nun. Remember, I'm on a fucking IDM forum.... an IDM forum.. Think about that for a second before claiming people are closed minded nuns.

Seems (so far) we're pretty evenly split - I'm going to add a poll to the thread so we can register our votes.
