def fun synth. don't know what's wrong with me but i always end up just using square waves and playing with pulse width. just this week i was surprised at a pretty convincing sid arp style patch i made. personally i rarely use the sequencer though since i have everything hooked up to the pc via a motu midi box. i'm just terrible about ever recording anything. :cerious:

ha yeah, the square wave is pretty nice. I've been playing around with the square wave on the CS01 as well, so chippy. It's funny because the other guy in my synthpunk duo hates chiptunes but loves the square wave sound if it comes from the CS01, even if it's playing chip style arps. I guess in the same superficial way that he's not even into the MS20 mini because it's not 30 years old :P .. he loves his broken MS10. If I secretly repaired it he'd probably lose his shit!

its all really fun

it was only my 2nd analog so im not an expert or anything

but it seems that outside of modulars a function where for an osc you can mix various waveforms together and blend them how you see fit, and with each of those having a control that somehow manipulates that waveform, seems pretty rare with synths. probably not even common (or at least not standard) in hardware VAs or even software ones that i've seen, really. so to me that's pretty cool. the modular side (and fact that you can use it with other stuff) is also cool

i agree with limpy about the cut around 450hz

yeah, it's pretty nice. I couldn't find a sweet spot with all four waveforms yesterday but combinations of two or even three sounded pretty good. I love how maxing out one while having the others at 12 o'clock kinda obliterates everything, with the others just poking out every now and then.

Yeah, the sequencer is great. I couldn't figure out how to get it into the mode where hitting the tap/rest button advanced the sequence though (rather than it being just an automated sequence). I could have sworn I saw that in a youtube video!

hitting the tap while "recording" is entering a pause

very fun machine. great to have cv outputs and midi in. amazing to run this through fx, like a lot of delay, to get a more "poly" sound.

make sure to get the latest firmware to adjust the sequencer. then you don't need to hold down a key to play and stuff.

my only "complaint" is that the sequencer is too linear, it would be nice to be able to enter different note lengths

Check my dusty tunes and mixes over here: https://soundcloud.com/2kn

Na, I don't think I was being clear. I meant, recording a sequence, and then playing it back using the tap button.. so each time you press the button it plays the next note in the sequence

e.g. 13:20 in this video:

Looks like you need to use the software to set it to be triggered by external gate.

That last one was just the reverb on the Behringer Virtualizer Pro. It's lush as fuck!

The others just used a bit of Magnus' Ambience plugin, and the delay in Reaper.

Here's another. I modified my monotron with cv/gate inputs, so this snippit is the microbrute controlling the monotron (which is tuned to fifths) but also running through the monotron's filter. Took a little while to set up but it sounds pretty great. The tuning is a little off but I kinda like that.

Thanks! It's a really diverse synth. As with most diverse synths though, it takes a bit of tweaking to find the good sounds. Last night I spent 30mins trying to make an approximation of a 70s soft rock bassdrum sound. I got pretty close! I'll post it when I use it in a track.

so I finally installed my midi pickup on my live guitar just so I could hear it playing the microbrute (excuse the sloppy playing):

http://youtu.be/20z8VBf-KD4

It tracks really well! Actually better than the QY70 I was using before, somehow. I think maybe because it's monophonic and I actually forced the midi interface into mono mode. This is gonna be very good for my various music projects :D

nice!

I think I've come around about the Steiner-Parker filter. At first I thought it was grossly nasal, but now I can see how its timbre is perfect for certain things (especially leads).

Yeah, it can get pretty nasal but also quite lush if you find the sweet spots. Overall I think it takes longer to get a good sound going compared to other synths in its price range but I don't consider that a bad thing!

Accidentally stumbled upon a super vocaly sound tonight. Reverb/delay courtesy of Behringer Virtualizer Pro

https://soundcloud.com/pselodux/voca

Definitely gonna layer it for a makeshift mellotron choir sound! Maybe even make a sample pack of it because the cutoff knob is really sensitive with the settings I used!

same patch, layered three times, put through EQ/amp sim/saturation and layered another 7 times in a Renoise instrument = almost mellotron choir:

patch is as follows; use mod wheel for vibrato:

haha, yup I love being able to coax unorthodox sounds out of my gear. I'll have to upload some of the stuff we did at the italianz jam on the weekend. Microbrute pitch and filter modulated by AKS, with the AKS audio output also being processed through the filter input :D

Do you guys, who owns microbrute, came a cross this: you play with the sequencer a bit. After that you put the 'play' option, so you could hear what have you made. But something funny happens. You're not hitting any note what so ever, but there is still this very weird like an echo of that what you have recorded. It plays the sequence(echo) without pressing any note.

A bug? Or feature? :dadjoke:

Here's a little low quality sample of it.
