Have you ever heard a music which successfully combines the best elements of say The Melvins/Venetian Snares or Queen Adreena/Aphex Twin or The Locust/Autechre - is such a thing possible?

(Something that is neither rock set to electronic beats nor rock music with electronic instruments but a true melding of the two? Music with electronic stimulation, imagination, diversity and exploration of sound and vocal/analogue instrument gut human emotion/physicality?)

- i understand that not all tracks for tour 'work' as tracks for releases but the track from 2008 tour that starts at 20 min is absolutely genius. that momentum, that energy (creative, sexual and intellectual all in one) is something i heard only in beethoven's symphonies, no where else. the closes released track is spl9 and it 'works' fantastically. will you consider releasing more tracks with that kind of energy?

1) Any thoughts on Funckarma and other output by the Funcken brothers? The structure of some of their early stuff is somewhat reminiscent of mid-90s Ae, and they've done loads of music without much development after getting in their comfort zone of sci-fi music (I often find it evoking the 'high tech low life' atmosphere of cyberpunk). I just have such a soft spot for that, and along with your own catalogue find bits and pieces of it among my favourite electronic music at the moment. Does it hit that spot for you too?

 

2) The track you did at Stormy Waters in 1995 is one of my favourites. Rumours went around here lately that it went by the name 'Second Crane'. Was this the case, or is it a fan name?

 

3) Dunno if we're still playing the naming game by this point (just got home) but well: I don't know how either of you feel about spiders, but I keep tarantulas as a serious hobby. Having passed the 50 mark I'd appreciate some help with names. If you wish to suggest any for my two Pamphobeteus sp. "Machalla", it would be a great/amusing honour. I include a photo of one in the spoiler should you wish for a visual reference.

tbh i find these kind of axes a bit artificial, arbitrary at best. it's a shame there are these two predominant camps given how flexible it all actually is

Hi Rob and Sean, thank you and watmm for doing this! It’s like a 2013 electronic music version of a Going Live/Live & Kicking phone-in with fewer abs and no audible screaming.

Would you guys consider coming back to Belfast and/or Dublin? I saw you here (Belfast) back on the Untilted tour tho I was quite young, very stoned and not overly familiar with your music at the time so you guys prob remember it better than I do. I made the trip over to London for the Oversteps tour – haven’t seen anything better before or since (tho my ex gf left before you came on cos her purse got nicked at the show, any chance of a refund?... )

How was the sound in the Button Factory in Dublin? I had been there a couple of months before you played last time and it was really awful, hopefully they sorted it out.

Fol3/4 have consistently been amongst my favourite tracks of yours for a few years now. Really love the stereo effect where it feels like a gale is blowing through one ear and out the other. Fol3 always evokes the image of a mechanical Kraken attacking a ship on a stormy night, I guess the proximity of Tankraken on the playlist may have subconsciously influenced this. And Fol4 is like being in the monster’s dank cavernous layer. Anyway, related q: do you guys ever develop tracks based around imaginary settings or scenarios that a particular sound(s) evokes?

Was it a deliberate design choice to have the L-event 12” fit nicely into the Exai case? Either way, pretty nice and loving both records.

Favourite Kool Keith-related record? Have you been following Chris Douglas’ recent spate of releases on Icasea, RLR, etc.?

most of it, some of it's g2 stuff which we'd still have to build, but yeah i reckon there's nothing too intensive there really

er yeah i guess, we always did those kind of tracks for EPs and live sets anyway, at least it felt that way, maybe slightly less slamming on the EPs

i think what it is, we like listening to certain kinds of stuff at home and on headphones, and we like hearing more slamming things when we're out in a club, and we do what feels right in each context

But you believe that the two camps exist? I've never heard omnivorous music in that sense that is as good as specialised music (at least in some small sense) as far as I know - I genuinely want to find music that makes me think differently, I don't want there to be a boundary either

nah i think they don't really but a lot of bands seem to and the press are lazy so it perpetuates
