Lol

This thread has turned into an episode of silence of the lambs.

I want to use the term 'degenerate' but 'evolved' might be part of the truth as well.

To keep it real and analog, I'm gonna start posting to WATMM by writing my posts in fountain pen on hemp paper, putting them in bottles, and throwing them into the ocean.

why not? you could past any former presidents head onto that body. o's head hasn't got anything to do with racism. this image is a good example of having nothing to do with race. how else could you photoshop o's head on a skinny white mans body? that's ignoring race by definition...!?

you know how I found that image? by googling "black jesus".

Is that ignoring race?

I came across this article yesterday: The Changing Face of America.

Although the multiple-race option is still rooted in that taxonomy, it introduces the factor of self-determination. It’s a step toward fixing a categorization system that, paradoxically, is both erroneous (since geneticists have demonstrated that race is biologically not a reality) and essential (since living with race and racism is). The tracking of race is used both to enforce antidiscrimination laws and to identify health issues specific to certain populations.

Anyway, I thought it was interesting and noteworthy.

American census questions are finally starting to distinguish ethnicity and nationality but they're still far behind. It's a bit comical, depending on what kind of paperwork you're filling out, what the choices are. Often you'll see "African-American" but not black (therefore making it impossible for a person of African or Carib nationality from answering)...

...or you'll have have a dozen sub-choices for Hispanic and Latino categories, because of this law:

  Quote

The federal government of the United States has mandated that "in data collection and presentation, federal agencies are required to use a minimum of two ethnicities: 'Hispanic or Latino' and 'Not Hispanic or Latino'."[16] The Census Bureau defines "Hispanic or Latino" as "a person of Cuban, Mexican, Puerto Rican, South or Central American or other Spanish culture or origin regardless of race."[16]

This is really problematic because there are people who are European are immigrants from Africa or Latin America. Like Louis C.K. or part of Mitt Romney's family (no really) whose families lived in Mexico for generations. Or there are people who come from multiracial countries like Brazil.

I remember during a phone call census gathering when I was in college, I told the person I was white but a quarter Mexican and when I told her I was part Basque she was like "uhh, yeah nevermind, we'll just put white." At the time it was really only a focus of the census to get basic data on minority group population numbers, specifically Spanish speakers.

Race_and_ethnicity_in_the_United_States_Census

Brazil, despite a plethora of social and economic inequalities, is legally far ahead of the United States in their census collecing. There they ask for detailed background and actually distinguish your skin color, family's nationality, AND your ethnic background. They've had to because so much of their population is biracial or mixed race.

The U.S. government is just now really coming to reality that it's occurring here too but general population is still quite ignorant of all the nuances. I have relatives who insist this is a post-racial society and filled in "American" on the census, based on their disagreement with the Federal government keeping track of such data. Now, I'm willing to debate affirmative action laws, but being against the U.S. Census being more detail-oriented because it's related to government funds and development? Really?
