Aphex Twin Aphex Twin-Inspired Flashmob Performs at the Met

Alarm Will Sound did a musical flashmob (they still exist?) and performed at the Met their rendition of Aphex Twin's "Cliffs" track from Selected Ambient Works Volume II:

Can't they make their own music? Seems they've based their career on performing other people's works...

Er, they're an orchestra, and that's what orchestras have done since forever?

We've lived in the world of recorded music for so long that performing someone else's has become a mark of shame.

i think it's fine that they cover other people's songs. the choice of songs is sometimes weird though. They did a mochipit song off their last album,a cover of a track that was inspired/ripped-off concept from a fluorescent grey track, it was composed after mochipit heard said fluorescent grey track.

yes my brother and i were running through the gamut of the absurd, commenting on this non-flash well organised and rehearsed gallery performance event. I mean if they weren't going to conform to the original meaning of flash mob they could have at least flashed something, like tits or their underwear, i'm sure amongst all those marble statues little would have noticed and at least a partial part of the term that they labelled their event by could have been salvaged.

I was at the Met back in March 2003, but didn't see any random performances like that there at the time. There were some breakdancer dudes elsewhere on the street in Manhattan tho.
