Shit, I hope the Android version still continues - It's by far my favourite media player

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

fack. I still use Winamp exclusively to play music on PC.

oh well, there'll always be old versions floating around on the Net for download. nae problem really.

Well surely the player will still exist, just not any web services or updates.

This will just make it cool and retro

I can't remember the last time I updated foobar.

Winamp went downhill.

I wouldn't say it went downhill, I'd just say none of the new features were actually interesting. you just didn't care to use them. I never installed the video player stuff, for instance. I've only ever used a certain subset of Winamp's total functionality and that has essentially stayed the same for what, the last 10 years?

so yeah, not too fussed that development is stopping.

I can, it was the release of 0.9.5.2 back in 2008 - After that the authors got in a right honk and broke compatibility with a lot of third party plugins (many of which I use daily) so I've stuck with that build

Which ones? Maybe I'll downgrade.

The main one for me was CWB Hooks - It allowed a whole load of GUI variables that you could add. This is my setup:

foobar.png

The CWB Hooks allowed the 'Total Play List Time' and all those details in the title bar (Bitrate, last played etc.)

I believe the plugins for the emulation of SNES and N64 sound chip (for you to play back tracks from games) also became incompatible which I used to use a lot, but now hardly ever.

And relevant to this thread I guess you can tell that my previous player was Winamp 2.9x

Any other benefits?

At the moment I can have most of them on GUI if I like. Im using "date added" as an indicator of when I got the album so I can keep track of whats new in my library.

There are probably a few others, CWB Hooks was quite powerful, but those were the ones I used. I mean as you proved, you can have most of them showing on the interface, but the method using CWB meant it used up face less screen real estate which I quite like - and the dynamic playlist time wasn't reliant on your library just whatever you had queued up. I'm not really a fan of full screen players which is why I liked being able to strip it down so much.

To be honest if VLC allowed gapless playback I'd probably move to that - but you still get that little click in mixed albums. Plus Foobar is really good for quick multi id3 tagging and transcoding so it's still the player for me.

Winamp whips the Windows Media Player's ass. I'll likely continue to use my current copy past 20th December until something more impressive comes along. I don't think I've heard of Foobar until this thread tho.

RIP winamp, pretty inseparable from all memories of first getting into mp3 and digital musics back in the day... lotta good times with that little player - finding a plugin just so for little fucker could play cds gaplessly (nevermind mp3s, lol @ vlc it's 2013 ffs), listening to shoutcast streams from my work computer (opening up a whole world of thereto undiscovered electronic music :boc: ), rocking in minibar mode (always on top), getting stoned with friends and tripping out to the visualizations, fapping to some fan-made christina aguilera skin... I could go on.

Nothing but schadenfreude for AOL paying whatever billion for it too... how'd that work out?

The fact that clicking the mouse on the playing content doesn't pause the video pisses me off so much that i never use VLC, well that and mouse scrolling the volume takes you from low to 200% in no time. You should have to press alt +scroll wheel if you want to go past 100% volume or something.

Also, bummer about winamp. I downloaded their android ap, but found the inbuilt samsung music player less annoying,

*an illegally downloaded 96kbps mp3 of 'taps' plays. i weep while saluting.*

seriously, though. i remember the good ol' days, downloading low bitrate squarepusher and aphex tracks off napster on dialup and playing them in winamp on my old HP. THOSE WAS THE DAYS.
