Is the spacebar on my mouse? Do i want the keyboard on my lap or even more painful, have to reach across to the coffee table and then take my eyes off the action to find the spacebar on the keyboard wherever i left it. Oh the pain of it all. Perhaps you can bind the left click to pause the action, but then there's still that volume problem. MPC is just way better.

VLC isn't pretty for mp3 playing either. rip winamp, long live winamp.

seriously, though. i remember the good ol' days, downloading low bitrate squarepusher and aphex tracks off napster on dialup and playing them in winamp on my old HP. THOSE WAS THE DAYS.

indeed they were. i'd actually hook up my pc to a tape deck, download mp3s from an old irc channel, then record the mp3s to a cassette tape. would then cruise around town like this (this was before napster btw).

i didn't have a stereo nice enough to have aux inputs so i had to use my 2x burner to burn a cd, then tape from the cd to the tape deck. it was a chore and a half!

i actually was in my parent's basement a few months ago and found a ton of old cds i had burned of random idm and punk tracks waaaaay back then. weird changeups on those, they'd go from portishead to op ivy to squarepusher. sonic whiplash.

god i'd always try to watch milkdrop visualizations back when i did mushrooms fairly regularly but for some reason my brain cannot comprehend screens under the influence of psilocybin so it never worked.

It's too bad they didn't implement a 'record video' feature for the visualizations. That is what I would have looked forward to in future versions.

the original Geiss was my shit. I can't see myself using anything besides winamp for music.

I never used winamp myself, my family's PC has itunes (i ripped so many CDs using that godawful encoder too) and before that I played my CDs in my car, on my portable, or before all of that...on my PS1 (it had lame trippy visuals too)

That said it's intrinsically tied to memories of hanging out with my friends who did. I always thought it was so much cooler than itunes.

I don't believe so. 20th December is the permanent cutoff point for any future downloads, but I doubt the company would actively seek out computers that have Winamp installed once that time comes - that would be kinda creepy. My impression is that it's more like it'll become abandonware then.

I've been rocking VLC for video and Winamp for audio for a while now. I've always liked Winamp's layout, will use this version as long as i can... it like it better for audio than VLC somehow.

I think I must have left Winamp when v.3 came out or something and moved on to foobar, without any extra bells and whistles.

Damn... this is *exactly* what I used to do, just the odd jumble of random Squarepunter/AirFiX trax, chosen only because they would take the least amount of time to download on dialup (usually about 15 minutes for a 3 minute track!). Man, I think it took 'Kodack' about half a day to download via napster... but it was worth it!

Funny thing was, I got used to those low quality files, much like you would the hiss and pop of a cassette - that when I would buy the respective CDs they were taken from, they would sound too clean to my ears!

Discovered WinAMP circa 2001, and like so many others who have already mentioned, it was an amazing program (especially with the visualisations). Reminds me fondly of SLSK and audiogalaxy groups :)

oh yeah audiogalaxy, lol 15 minutes download for a 4 minutes song, those were the days.

OK, so if Winamp is no longer - for when I get a new phone (or wipe this one when installing Cyanogenmod), what's the best Android music player (must support gapless playback and have lockscreen controls)

Complete and utter bullshit. I've been using it for 15 years or so, swore I'd never switch for music playback a long time ago. I tried foobar at one point but never got it to work the way I like. Does this affect shoutcast in any way?

makes me quite nostalgic to just hear of winamp again. I used to play my first mp3 with it because I thought wm would report me to the poolice immediately...

I also used it to watch certain porns that somehow only winamp was able to play due to the format. After I started using foobar/VLC it just kind of rotted away on my hard drive..I remember it always started to play that gym class orgie randomly whenever I tried to open a stream, because I never fixed the standard file extension settings.

Tripping out to Milkdrop while Fingerbib was playing...those were the days
