I think if an actor has been awesome in at least one movie then you can't rate them as a bad actor overall, Mark Wallberg (Boogie Nights), Christian Bale (American Phsyco), Tim Roth (Reservoir Dogs), Ryan Gosling (Drive), Eric Banner (Chopper) and even Edward Norton (American History X).

I dont count action stars or comedy personalities as proper actors as such as they are more entertainers.

Then you have those actors that seem to get into good films who aren't actually that good themselves like Toby Maguire, Jake Gyllenhaal, Keanu Reeves, Leoanardo DI Caprio (was awesome in Django), Matt Damon, Jennifer Lawrence, John Cusak, Sam Worthington ect.

This still leaves the likes of Colin Farrell, Gwyneth Paltro, Jude Law, Daniel Radcliff, Shea LaBeouf, Megan Fox who have all been shit in almost every lead role they've ever done.

I'm still debating if Ben Affleck was almost ok in Argo and he did seem to fit well in that Superman actor film but he was almost auto-ironically playing a shit actor anyway.

on the whole, can't say he was wrong, it's an interesting observation. America certainly trades in guys playing themselves, whether it's John Wayne, Marlon Brando, Jack Nicholson, Clint Eastwood, Humphrey Bogart, Steve McQueen, etc., whereas in England you get more chameleonic folks like Ian Mckellen, Peter Sellers, Alec Guinness, Michael Caine, Derek Jacobi, etc. Of course there are exceptions - plenty of superb character actors in the US, and actors like Sean Connery in the UK.

jennifer lawrence is seriously bland. i watched the hunger games 2 this weekend with my cousins and, yikes, i could not see that wit thay everyone goes on about. i understand it's a movie for teenagers, but so were the harry potter films and they had some great actors (all the kids sucked though).

i admit i have not seen silver lining playbook, which i hear is her best performance, so i might have to hold off judgment.

we can all agree tobey maguire is shit though. the great gatsby was such a disaster lol.

ryan gosling nailed it in place beyond the pines and christian bale was amazing in the prestige. gosling was also great in lars and the real girl and that movie about the crack addicted history teacher.

michael fassbender is a shitty actor. basically the cast of prometheus was a nightmare. charlize theron fucking lol.

i will give keanu a pass because the first matrix was a seminal work.

leo dicaprio has something weird going on with his face that distracts me in every movie he's in. it's some uncanny valley shit. i do not like it.
