I'd like to give it the Christmas night test. after all the famy is gone. little man fast asleep clutching his favorite new toy. fire still raging. multicolor light refractions bouncing off the snow on the lawn. fresh glass of family-made wine.

only this time I'm afraid the wife is going to just lol and walk out leaving me wondering why I'm listening to this.

It occurred to me, that while I do like this EP, I don't think it will work as home listening. At least I don't think so, but I haven't even tried... It's been a favorite in my car throughout the week, so I'll just try it out when the vinyl finally arrives.

I listened to this with the Mrs last night while we were wrapping presents she said what the fuck is this! but she didn't make me turn it off so that was a result and means it must be more palatable for her than most music I listen to...

To be fair though just before that I had been made to listen to the Michael Buble Xmas album so my ears really needed cleansings with some Burial!

Edited by kirm

Oh jesus, spent the whole day with that Buble album on repeat. It started off just massively irritating and by the end I was convinced it was some new form of sonic terrorism. Even 1 listen of that should = the whole of exai + keyosc as well if you're sharing the stereo.

Haha! Would never get her to put up with the whole of Exai, have had it on the Car quite a lot when picking her up and she never makes it through more than a minute before switching it off!

wait what? she gets to control your stereo?

lol :cerious:

Not everyone has girlfriend's/partner's that enjoy the same type of music. I still have say of the tunes in the car or at home but any type of electronic music is off bounds due to the amount of complaining and guilt trips.

"it's to crunching"

"where are the lyrics?"

"why isn't this Neil Diamond?"

I guess I'm lucky then!

Me and the girlfriend have been together since we were like 13 years old so I think our tastes just evolved together. I feel very lucky to be able to share all this weird quirky music with her and we have a mutual appreciation for it.

I can't imagine having such a big part of my life (music) having to be "hid"...

But I'd definitely hide this burial ep. I don't like.

Its not hid as such she is well aware of the music I like and that its important to me... but yeah I let her switch it of when she in the car and that.

Would be pretty twatish to be like you must endure Autechre or Gabber or soemthing, as much as I like this music I appreciate that to most people it sounds like sonic torture! I have very few friends who like similar music and have never been in a relationship with anyone who likes this shit, but it works and I still get plenty of chance to listen to the music I want.

Have tried to spoonfeed some Four Tet ...with varied success. Mental note: notice earlier on when to even think about starting to spoonfeed these silly noises we consider music.

Wish he didn't have to put in those autotuned vocals over the nice sad ambient part in the latter half of Rival Dealer. It's so nice otherwise, why did he have to do that? Like Furial man?

This EP reminds of a David Lynch movie. Mostly because of the way it shifts from extreme cheese to weird/dark stuff ever few minutes. Considering the general love for David Lynch on here, that only makes the "hate" for this EP even more funny. Keep up the good work WATMM.

I feel for you. I lived this for about two years with my ex. It was frustrating every time. I'm glad that's over.

But there's always the post-midlife-crisis surprise coming-out to look forward to! Lots of like-minded men to share this kind of music with!

Ha-ha!! Very true the IDM'z must be a big Sausage fest of fun if you do swing that way....... Might be worth a go ;)

Seriously though in pretty much every other way me & the Mrs are very compatible, and its nice to kinda have you own thing... when we have a bit of time out she watches make up tutorials and ASMR whispering vids on youtube and I listen to the tunes. Tis all good

Playing Autechre to your girlfriend is stupid.

I don't mean to be rude, but come on… don't do that.

There is no doubt in my mind that if this EP was released by some unknown artist it would be universally panned (save for the first track) - if on anyone's radar at all.

It has become something of a litmus test for me to see who is full of shit.

shit you got me, This EP has been filling me full of emotion & joy but just realised thats only becuase its says Burial on the front!

And anyway if this had come out from an unknown name everyone would just think it was Burial under a pseudonym, It may be a bit of a U-turn for him but his Sonic fingerprint is still all over it.
