Since I hated Oversteps, Exai was a greater leap into the right direction for me. So I think it's the more important album in terms of artistic development. T.H. was good but mostly more of the same, no real new direction except maybe a slightly more sparse sound I'm not sure how to feel about.

I prefer the scorched earth, sun burnt desolation of TH. Exai sounds like a robot dying of synthetic ebola.

However I can see that I've already worked out TH and Exai remains something of a mystery to me. So perhaps TH has won the battle but Exai may win the war?

If you get my drift,

They are both great albums. Polar opposites. TH gives me lots of good feels, Exai is pure ear-candy. Exai is more vivid, direct, and the sound quality of Exai is superior. TH takes me through a spectrum of different emotional responses, and I can get into some deep thoughts while listening. TH also works great as background music, accompanied by work or hobby. TH is a familiar BOC vibe, whimsical nostalgia that will always bring me comfort. Exai takes me back to some of AE's earlier, possibly more attainable beat structures and grooves. But really Exai is a full-array of fresh, experimental soundscapes that force me to focus directly into the music as it plays by. There's so much interesting content to Exai that I cherish each listen as new sounds always seem to develop.

To choose one over the other would usually depend on the day, and how I was feeling. RIght now I'd choose Exai.

I love music.

I really don't see how one could compare the two; both are entirely different styles of music - I bet even Sean and Rob wouldn't make such a comparison, nor would Mike and Marcus.

Now, if you asked which album spoke to me more musically - I'd say for me it's Tomorrow's Harvest. However, Autechre's style of music is something entirely different than BOC's work, and Exai is good to drive to, whereas Tomorrow's Harvest is annoying to drive to - too many details get lost mixed in with the road noise, etc.

So really for me it's down to what 'mood' I'm in and what I'm doing at the moment determines which I prefer at that time.

they are really different beasts but if I really had to compare on just creative levels, exai wins by a landslide. exai sounds like ae doing what they do with yet another twist. it sounds like ae creating stuff for themselves where th sounds like boc creating stuff for fear of failure or living up to expectations.

for me, if th has a downfall, it's just too repetitive or formula driven. even by boc standards. so many arpeggios. so many drop outs with a chopped vocal addition when it kicks back in. this is not to say I don't love th, I really do. but for art's sake, exai is pure creativity with no expectations. and for that, it's a win in my book.

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

I was in US tjis summer, and eat in KFC. FUCK That's the worst thing i've ever eaten. The flesh simply doesn't cleave to the bones. Battery ferming. And then, foie gras is banned from NY state, because it's considered as ill-treat. IT'S NOT. KFC is tourist ill-treat. YOU POISONERS! Two hours after being to KFC, i stopped in a amsih little town barf all that KFC shit out. Nice work!

So i hope this woman is not like kfc chicken, otherwise she'll be pulled to pieces.

Exai wins the Olympics while smoking and beats Lance Armstrong without doping. But there's no shame in being wrong.

Exai for the fun, balls to the wall trip, Harvest for the general experience... Looking back to the record store day, it was realy fun, WATMM :emotawesomepm9: :emotawesomepm9: :emotawesomepm9:

And still now TH makes a lot of love for me, Exai is a great tho..hard to choose, but I think Tomorrow's Harvest takes it :cerious:

TH for me. More accessible and I dig the haunted evocative vibe a bit more. Exai is a beast of an album though.

I think the biggest thing that affects how people perceive/receive Tomorrow's Harvest is the fact there was 7+ years of waiting, expectations, anticipation - all released in 1 album. I don't think BOC could ever meet the minority of expectations for their latest release, let alone the majority.

BOC made the album they wanted to make - I don't think the fans expectations ever played a role in it's creation, and certainly not in when it was released.

Autechre, I feel is all about pushing musical boundaries - sometimes the results are fantastic (Exai), other times not so much (Quaristice, IMO) - if Exai wasn't as groundbreaking as it is, I think we'd be looking at it like Tomorrow's Harvest is being viewed, as somewhat formulaic - but, I think if BOC did something unexpected (like the guitar bits on TCH), the backlash from the fans would be severe and not praised by most, unlike Autechre.

lol, glad to see your dabblings in philosophy further opened your mind. How, indeed.

To me TH is about as impressive and beguiling as an elderly person's dry fart. But - opinions and stuff.

I seriously can't compherend how it's possible to not like TH. It's slowly becoming one of my favorite albums ever made.

how is TH not winning ... both are slight letdowns, but TH is definitely better

TH is not winning bc it is a letdown whereas Exai is an inspired and incredible album.
