exactly. Also, I throw the best dance parties by myself at home DJing whatever the fuck I want. For different variation of the same music, the artist should just release it as remix. Live recording always have abysmal crowd noise, fuck all the cheering and bullshit. The only thing I see going for live show is bigger audio system and sex, if you are into that kind of stuff.

Even though I like the album, I'd agree with 'hard-to-get tease game' bullshit they peddle. I've vented my spleen over that many times over the years. Does my fucking head in. I'm English (with a bit Irish) and by the laws of nature I'm generally very cynical, so it doesn't really wash with me. For a time it was cool, I guess the release of Geogaddi suited all that.

I must admit, at this moment in time I'm left a bit deflated by the return of BoC.

I'm baffled that some think it's an high point in their career, but i'm not very accepting of the ultra minimalist one idea tracks. For some though, it's the ultra pollinator bee's knees, good for them, suckling on that premium honey.

As for being mysterious, it works pretty well at keeping people away, for lack of knowledge as to who they are and where to find them, including the nuts that would obsess over the package that they have strived to create, this BoC thing. That would be a positive. It is the antithesis of the normally understood role of the musician as a communicator not only of his magic through music but being open about his thoughts on all the this and thats of the world of music and beyond. There have been a few exceptions, this genre seems to reflect that more than most.

I'm not sure i think they have the largest fan base the've ever had at the moment, would even say larger than ae, aphex etc, as their sound is more accessible & their still goin. massive fanbase examples- guy on fox news saying their amazing, endless u tube comments saying their amazing, their facebook page, just google boc lol.....

i don't like it lol & think they must be having trouble dealing with this exposure, i found the build up of TH tedious after a while but love the album & just wish they released it without telling anyone, like with geogaddi etc. beyonce's new album release was more mysterious lol

I'm on board with this. i mean i am as psyched as the next guy for box, but that overblown campaign left a little bit of a bad taste in my mouth. even when they announce the next ep, i think i am just going to be ilke "ok, an ep in 3 months. great. "

I don't see them ever doing live shows in the future. They are too busy searching out rare distorted bleeps and blorps in recordings from abandoned bunkers in Russia, which add .5 seconds of a song, a song which when complete is somewhat boring and overall uninspired.

same. I think my dislike for their promotion machine and general approach to PR was well-documented in the TH release thread.

also fuck, you guys, don't be losernerds, live shows are where it's at. maybe live electronic music is a lot more unpredictable in terms of enjoyment than conventional music, but remember, music was a live thing before it ever became a recorded thing.

Not sure if it's a phase that may pass but the Warp head honcho's who have been the glue for my recent music obsessions of the past decade (even though I have been listening a lot longer the obsession kicked into overdrive about 12 years ago) may be coming to an end.

I'm fatigued with the endless cat and mouse games of Aphex, the BOC hype balloon was a bit ridiculous (in hindsight) and I'm a bit bored with all that, Autechre just depress me and aren't much fun at all and Squarepusher....well he seems alright, the Ufabulum live show was fucking insane, so he's okay for the time being.

I spent last weekend discovering and listening to Sun Ra, and something was telling me that this will be my new squiddly-diddley. I'll always love all the Warp stuff, but coming on here and reading the latest posts in the Aphex Twin New Release Speculation Thread? Or worrying about when the new BOC release will be? Nahhh. Fuck that.

Gonna offset the stalwart naysayers by reiterating (months later mind you) that TH is still my favorite BoC album by a fair degree.

I wouldn't have envied them having to follow up the previous catalog, and with such a gap of time swelling expectations many people were bound to be disappointed with the result.

Listening to TH, and bearing in mind the narrative (both affixed through the interviews and literally inferred through the music/track-titles), one can tell the creation of this album was likely an agonizing balancing act: showing musical progression/maturation without alienating the established fan-base: conveying a relevant theme without too much transparency, maintaining a stylistic individualism in the wake of countless contemporaries: I believe that BoC pulled off all of the above, and more, with aplomb. TH is their most wholly realized artistic statement yet and I'm more excited than ever to hear what's next from them, if anything.

I didn't get this at all. In interviews when they said they avoided all contemporary music while they are in a cabin IABPOITC, it all made sense to me. It's like they have no idea that so many other people pay homage to them with their sound so they didn't really step up their game or distinguish themselves.

To me, lots of other musicians are making great sandwiches with some BoC bread while Tomorrow's Harvest is like plain toast.

Glad you like the album, but have to say I don't understand this whole thing about them facing some kind of arduous balancing act. I mean c'mon, get over yourselves and make some music. I think it's safe to say I would have welcomed something shocking this time out. "True fans" are, I think, willing to follow in some pretty extreme directions, provided they sense there's some logic and passion behind it, not just randomness.

Not that I needed a game changer. I was very happy with Campfire after letting it settle for a bit, and it wasn't all that different from their previous efforts. I don't necessarily need novelty. But TH just doesn't draw me in or keep me engaged, there's not enough warmth or feeling I guess. Plus it has some arguably distasteful elements - to me at least it feels like it's trying too hard to be epic, some of it feels derivative, etc.

Not trying to get you to change your mind. Just that when I assess an album, I don't give much thought as to how difficult it was to create, just whether it pleased my eardrums. For all I know, Tomorrow's Harvest is the best album ever made using electricity generated solely by bicycle power. Those Sandisons were pedaling like mad just to get the synth parts down. Still doesn't make it that good, tho.

LOL @ people who think BOC are losing fans - if anything, TH has probably increased their fanbase.

I highly doubt "what will the fans think" had any factor in how TH turned out (for better or worse) - BOC set out to make the album they wanted to make - they've said so in interviews - why would anyone believe anything different?

Oh, I dread the day (if) Richard ever releases anything under Aphex Twin again - if anything, the whole TH event proves that the longer fan expectations grow, the more unrealistic they'll become. Then again, like BOC, Richard won't give two shits whether "the fans" approve of it or not - he'll have made the album (or whatever) he wanted to release, and will be laughing all the way to the bank.

I think the biggest mistake any artist can make is to make something for their fanbase and not something they themselves are wanting to make.
