I was being facetious. I am sure there is a proper name for using a improper term for something serious or something...but I forget this is WATMM and everything is taken literally due to assburgers.

ah yes, the "everyone here is autistic but me" defense. be clear in your writing, my assburgers won't kick in.

Supposedly he only had 5 bags on him. Addicts have said that really isn't much for an addict to have. When I heard about his going to rehab before I got the distinct impression that it might have been one of those "to keep the peace" with the family type of scenarios. (could be wrong though) You don't have to be an addict to die from heroin, and you aren't an addict just because you use sometimes.

Depends on whether the 'bags' were tickets (0.1g) or grams or what.

Yeah, I don't know. It's just what I heard. The only heroin I've ever seen comes in capsules not bags.

There will be new love from the ashes of us.

I remember him from The Big Lebowski. It's a damn shame he succumbed to drug addiction - a good reason to watch Requiem For A Dream (which he was not in).

To keep it real and analog, I'm gonna start posting to WATMM by writing my posts in fountain pen on hemp paper, putting them in bottles, and throwing them into the ocean.

this is my fave:

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

I was in US tjis summer, and eat in KFC. FUCK That's the worst thing i've ever eaten. The flesh simply doesn't cleave to the bones. Battery ferming. And then, foie gras is banned from NY state, because it's considered as ill-treat. IT'S NOT. KFC is tourist ill-treat. YOU POISONERS! Two hours after being to KFC, i stopped in a amsih little town barf all that KFC shit out. Nice work!

So i hope this woman is not like kfc chicken, otherwise she'll be pulled to pieces.

I thought that was the cruelest Onion article ever but it is real?

Is libel a crime in other parts of the world?

Or punishment for being rude?

Man, what an unexepected death. Usually I gawk at the idea of even posting "RIP" about any celebrity, but this feels different. Basically it's always been a good thing when he shows up in a movie. Hell, his small supporting role in Almost Famous basically makes the fucking movie. I can't think of any time where I saw him show up on the screen and thought it would be bad, and it never was, usually quite the opposite. This sucks.

He looked absolutely terrible in his last public appearance at Sundance. I don't want to find the picture but it's apparent he was tackling something very dark, not dabbling.

For many years, PSH had been very honest about his substance abuse issues, especially alcohol.

For some insane reason, I don't think heroin has the fear factor amongst wealthy actors. Isn't it well documented that Steve Coogan and Owen Wilson chase the dragon? In an industry where everyone's on cocaine, heroin is the drug-takers' drug.

Ultimately, and I suspect I'm right, PSH would say that he made his own decisions and chose his own life and death. But I'm still adamant that Hollywood is a rotten circuit from tweens to established actors. Porn stars have a better system of support around them than Hollywood actors. It seems that because of the huge fees flying around in Hollywood it's just expected that everyone looks after themselves. "They'll just go to rehab, make a comeback and win an Oscar."

Isn't this what Boogie Nights is all about anyway? Little islands of real people struggling to live after their job/dream brings them to the same place.

i have to admit, it's the first time I've consciously been aware of a fat junkie. Maybe his true love was booze, and he just topped it off sometimes with H

I remember Courtney love blaming Steve Coogan for Owen Wilson's suicide attempt, saying he's always getting the drugs out. He just said she was mad and everyone believed him i think. That's mad if it's true though, I mean, in the 80's I was led to believe that heroin was seriously and instantly addictive - is it though?

I used to speedball quite a bit a few years ago and never got hooked. You have to have other stuff you do besides drugs and have non drug friends you spend most of your time with and if you start doing it more once a week you are in trouble. I've two friends who are proper junkies now on and off methadone and that and it's terrible.

Hah well, maybe I'm overstating it. TBH they both have fairly functional lives, are employed, have relationships etc. and when they are on methadone and not oxy or heroin they aren't broke all the time. But it's doubtful that either will get clean and if they do they will no doubt struggle with it forever.

My one buddy doesn't really care too much and honestly he seems way healthier and happier being high all the time. He had pretty extreme obsessive compulsive disorder and social anxiety for years and it disappeared once he started getting stoned (all the time).

My other buddy you would never know to look at him that he uses every day. He's 6' 2 and must be about 220lbs of pure muscle, hitting the gym all the time and that. He's honestly as big as a tank, but he was a Chernobyl baby so that might have something to do with it.

Anyways, you can definitely use heroin and not get addicted and you can definitely live a relatively healthy normal life being an addict if you can keep off the streets and maintain relationships.

But you probably shouldn't.

Good post.

Although it's probably a rare and controversial view, I would definitely say there is a legitimate therapeutic side to opiates (besides pain management). If someone is riddled with neuroses like anxiety and OCD...well it is of interest to note that the brain processes emotional pain and physical pain in a near-identical manner.

cool article, thanks!

Yeah, I think this topic is very interesting.

There is protocol for addressing chronic physical pain (whose root cause cannot be addressed), but not a real analog for chronic emotional pain in the psychiatric world.

There is a Vietnam vet who lives in my building who is plagued with emotional suffering of all sorts. He hasn't slept a full night in 30 years. He has seen darker shit than anyone should ever have to see. And only when he takes opiates does he suddenly become light-hearted and positive.

And despite the fact that his doctors have never really lifted a finger to address his emotional problems, his opiate habit is nonetheless viewed as problematic.

It's all about the individuals perspective. Maybe his life expectations were too high.

Less than a week! I can't listen to this track enough! I wake up in the middle of the night with it in my head. I love Aphex! I'm so excited. I've checked this god-4-saken website everyday for fucking YEARS with NO news and we're so close! Holy Shit! Oh my god! Anybody else feel like this everyday? Can't wait to hear that METZ track in HD glory! My speakers and headphones have no idea what they are about to be put through! Fanboy I am! BRING IT ALREADY!

regardless I think it's safe to say it's one of the more epic examples of falling off the wagon ever. He didn't just fall, he did a swan dive into the pavement down to bedrock level

Kind of makes me wonder if Joaquin Phoenix wasn't involved somehow. Phoenix looked like he was on junk in The Master, and the plot of the film involved them getting high together (on toxic bathtub booze, but still).

Fascinating article. Backs up all the mindfulness stuff I've learnt about body formations and how emotions do have some very subtle corresponding physical sensations - that can be dissipated quite quickly by just going into them, feeling them and being with them; as opposed to trying to numb them with booze, sex, basically any other distractions. Let's not get started on Buddhism again though...
