I once saw my exgf get shot up with dilaudid. She enjoyed it quite a bit. Described it as ,"being dipped into a warm bath".

Or cocaine, as they are both respiratory depressants. I remember numerous times back when I was active and had a big night with my ex I'd lay awake for hours with my head on her chest after she'd fallen asleep to make sure she was still breathing (she always was, though shallowly).

The fent thing is simple.

Adding a small and cheap amount of fent would enable a dealer to make, say, double the number of bags they could've made before with however much heroin they had.

I have no problem with discussing this, at least we might all learn something (I for one, googled fentanyl). Also re-read what you wrote, if the thing about separating from his long-time girlfriend is true, one could read this whole thing as him being an ultra-douche: he is not only willing to put his 3 young kid's futures at risk just to get high, but also sets up his ex for a lifetime of remorse. Nice guy, PSH. Yeah I know I know "addiction blah blah blah", but I don't think you can completely take free will out of the equation. He obviously knew what he was doing, as he was stockpiling the drug for a blowout bender. That shows premeditation, rather than living in a delusional bubble of "oh, just one more..." I'm leaning towards "PSH was more than a little bit a selfish twat", myself, though I do understand tragedy etc.

this isn't true though, fentanyl is not cheaper than heroin. Where are you getting your information?

From my experience of buying heroin and fentanyl.

Having said that, I might very well be wrong. It all depends on what type of fentanyl the stuff is cut with.

But anyway, there are definitely cheap ways of doing it (which is what I assumed was being done).

He is a competent person. He could just as easily been stocking up to have some around. He probably felt really confident that he wasn't going to kill himself on accident. I don't think it's douchey to be a successful adult wanting to indulge yourself.

Fentanyl is way cheaper than H dose for dose.

Now say you buy 100grams/1 kilo/10 kilos of heroin and it's bunk.

Do you take it back for a refund? Unlikely.

Do you buy some better heroin and cut your shit heroin back with the better heroin? Unlikely - you've just spent most if not all of your money on this shit batch of heroin.

Or do you buy 1gram/10grams/100 grams of Fentanyl and mix it into your shit heroin so it keeps your userbase from entering withdrawal and hope you don't get so ripped off next time.?

I agree with lumpy that he was irresponsible cause he had three kids. I know that it's pretty obvious but if it's occasionally brought up in this thread, in between feeling sorry for his loss or talking about how to cut H to boost profits. I mean, it's not like he had to do much in his life, beyond read a few scripts and show up on set for 1-3 months every year or so. He should have taken up base jumping or something, would have been safer.

anyway, apparently he was on a bender in atlanta prior to this. bad place to be if you're trying to stay sober. people spotted him in a bar with some woman, going into the bathroom every couple minutes, then passed out on a plane home.

man, this is depressing as hell. he must have slipped a couple years ago and spiraled out of control recently. either do to with, or the cause of, his separation. must have been a nightmare to be with him, but what a shame. only have empathy for him, while it's a terrible thing to do to your children and loved ones, addiction is a horrible beast, especially a relapse.

He was a one of a kind actor that never made you think "look, there's Philip Seymour Hoffman playing a character". He WAS the fucking character and when you think about what a wide variety of films and roles he took, he's one of the greats.

Yeah pretty bizarre time in my life. I think I was 22. She was really smart and motivated, going to school full time and paying for her huge out-in-the-middle-of-nowhere apartment with her bike messenger service. I think it was mostly weed but good chance it was other stuff too.

 

But on the junky side of things she was very ocd and methodical about safety and hygiene. She had all of her bases covered, from laywers to narcaine rigs (that thing John Travolta shoved into Uma Thurman's chest).

 

The first time I did cocaine was at her place. I stayed up for 4 hours sitting on the couch, scraping the plate robotically.

 

I saw her a few years later when she cleaned up. It was strange how her personality changed. It was like someone had opened her skull and flipped a switch from 'Lou Reed' to like 'Belle and Sebastian' or something (sorry I can't think of a good 'square' band atm).

 

Last I heard she was living in Philly, surrounded by heroin culture. I wonder if she kept straight.

I agree, the dealer didn't chuck it in his arm at an unsafe rate. He's just a businessman supplying a demand, trynah make a living in this big old world. If you are angry, blame government drug policy which leaves us with a dirty and variable drug supply. That won't stop bingers from OD'ing though, he needed a nurse there to fix him if he lost it.

I dunno, I'll get flak for this but in the Master all I saw was PSH playing the master. Tbh I thought he was rather mediocre in that role. I didn't buy that he had the charisma needed.

That said I thought he was fantastic in Boogie Nights (as was almost everyone in that film), very good in the Talented Mr. Ripley, and adequate to good in some of the other roles I've seen him in (Before the Devil Knows You're Dead). He didn't leave much of an impression on me in Magnolia, for some reason. I didn't see Capote which I gather was one of his finest. I'm not a PSH hater or fanboy, I think he's an above average actor, who coasted a bit once his rep was established (I think this about almost all actors so I'm a bit of a cunt in that regard...I think in many cases and actor's first couple "big" films have their best performances...sort of like the first few breakthrough albums by a band). I'm sad he's gone but I also think the "I'm a fucking idiot" line from Boogie Nights fits too well. Dumb way to go. Too bad he didn't make close friends with Robert Downey Jr. or someone like that, and have enough presence of mind to pull out of his nosedive.

Also I sleep on planes all the time so I find that pic a bit lol. I hope everyone wonders if I'm "nodding" the next time they catch me drooling on myself in-flight...

on the other other hand, being overweight he could easily have gone out like Gandolfini, and if I had to choose between heart attack or heroin, it'd definitely be the latter. I had an opiate IV in the hospital once (not sure what it was) and it was pure bliss, certainly one of the best drug experiences I've ever had. So it's probably a great way to go out, maybe the finest...I've often thought it's how I'd want to go, not all mind melting like Huxley on LSD, but just floating away on a nice little opiate cloud, never to be earthbound again...

I've been open here about my addiction issues in the past and find it disturbing how ambivalent most people are on this forum. PSH knew exactly what he was doing. Shooting fentanyl or dilaudid is amazing and a lot cleaner than heroin, plus you know what your putting in your body. Yeah he had 3 kids, but as an addict there are urges much more powerful than children's tears. Shooting fent/dilaudid is a scary nasty rush, I'd put it in the same catergory as shooting coke/meth, smoking coke or smoking DMT. Just a violent rush. But if your a junkie that's what your looking for. When I lived in Puerto Rico it was unhealthy the way I'd mix that real clean coke and white dope, it's so straining on your heart. That photo on the plane reminds me of myself, nodding with a cup of melted Starbucks water. PSH bought a lot of good dope, he knew it was good so he stocked up a bit. His mistake was he got too high and wasted dope and kept shooting... Sometimes you wake up like quickly from a daydream choking on a little puke, and think whoa that was close. Sometimes you don't... To be honest the only time I post on this forum is when I'm using. I've got a good routine now where I use for 3 days and take 7 off. That's the only way to use recreationally without picking up a bad habit and going back to medical detox/rehab. PSH was an incredible talent and will be missed, there aren't very many like him left in the acting world. RIP
