Guest Jimmy McMessageboard
haven't listened yet but I oticed that the covers were labeled weirdly. "autechre - [track name] ([artist] cover)" seems wrong. a cover should be assigned to the artist not the original artist. only a remix gets that treatment Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/82309-watmm-ae-thx/page/2/#findComment-2129452 Share on other sites
jeyemusik
Finally had the chance to listen to the full thing now and like everyone else really enjoying it..... well, except for the usual post release mixing regrets I have for my track. No clunkers on it either! Would it be too soon to anticipate further comps/tributes? Really enjoyed being involved in this one. Guest eczem
I gotta say I'm loving the music on this compilation. So many awesome tracks.... I'm truly humbled by how strong all of your production & sound design skills are. I feel like my track is sort of the runt of the litter, at least in the way of mixing/EQ. Still, I'm very glad to have been able to contribute to this; it was great to have the opportunity to give back to the magicians that are Autechre. Also, slick art, all of it; love the pdf. It's the first time I've deliberately tried to make something sound like another artist, which is a very strange way to work. I was fighting off my own composition/production instincts the whole way through, though I may have wavered a bit when it came to the melodic stuff towards the end. It was challenging, but quite fun. Guest pafr
yeah, either you can try to make something that sounds like ae or remix an ae track to your own style, or remix an ae track in ae style. People seemed to have gotten the idea of ae's signature somewhat asynchronous drum tracks. Ae has so much variety, it's hard to really pin down any specific styles. Incunabula has pretty simple drum track. My initial plan for the gelk remix was to do both gelk and rae in the same track. I wanted to do the bpm slow down like in Rae. Both tracks use similar drum patterns with compressed drum sounds. It'd be rather difficult to mix both melodies together, but wouldn't be too hard since rae is mostly pads and gelk mostly bells. I wasn't too fond of the second half of gelk though, the melody seemed kinda out of place. I actually don't really like my track very much. It's too short, the good parts didn't loop enough times, and the ending of bell melody was supposed to be mixed in with the rest. But it was deadline date and I was lazy, so I just used it as a BoC style where you have a small melody section at the end, separate from the main track. That's why I thought it might be used as the last track in the compilation because of that ending bell melody, seemed rather fitting that way.
