what about the analord bonus tracks released in 2009? 23 tracks, a double disc album's worth of material, and people act like it didn't happen. it's only been 5 years, not counting steinvord, which was 2 years ago.

in response to people saying its been 13 years. maybe that was one of the other 3 threads

nah it's this one. But the analords material with the exception of the second last one (Analord 10) were released under AFX, and Steinvord is released as Steinvord.

They're saying nothing has been released under the Aphex Twin brand.

I just checked out of die antwoord... jesus motherfucking christ....... rdj has really gone downhill. I mean die antwoord's music is quite shitty, why is rdj even associating with those mofos?

I'm willing to believe that Aphex Twin has taken his epic trolling to new heights, part of me also believes Die Antwoord are performance art, mostly because the main guy's previous rap music is totally different sounding, he barely has the south african gangsta accent. I'm not sure, because Die Antwoord's music is undeniably horrible by almost any measure... it's honestly a hard call. I'd like to think this is Aphex Twin just fucking with the world again though, but maybe im wrong. After all this is the guy who is still pulling shit like scat porn and autopsy projects during break-beat/jungle DJ sets at clubs full of people on E and cocaine

It it just me or does it seem like some of the old Warp guys are trying to hop on the brostep wave like it's some new hip trend that they can ride?

That's just those artists take on the genre. Just like Chewed Corners is u-ziqs take on footwork. I don't think that's really "riding a trend"?

they are still humans that need to eat, and shit, and pay bills. sadly they need to be part of trends so they can survive.

I agree, middle-aged middle-class producers trying to bring back the old rave days and (unconsciously) appeal to the younger audience. Die Antwoord is the same case as they spent their youth trying to make it with rather smart version of hip-hop. Plaid is more of an exception, as they never was too ravey and they don't try to make it loud and intense.

Huh? So Squarepusher's twisted jungle/ish styles in the 90s and early 2000s were just him jumping on the trend train since jungle was big back then? And RDJ was just jumping on the IDM trend train of the 90s?

etc

That doesn't make much sense. These are just artists making music that we may/may not categorize as any particular genre. If they are consciously or unconsciously making songs that fit into a particular perceived category is irrelevant, since it still has their artistry/stamp

Yes to the 1st question and no to the 2nd, as RDJ created the IDM trend himself. Nobody saying that they're doing it for commercial purposes or it has no original value, it's just comes natural when you're young and not, when you're not.

i don't know dude but there was never this much disdain/embarrassment for jungle styles as there is now for brostep, it completely dwarfs that imo. I think that pointing out that those artists have been involved in bro-steppy works is quite a disturbing development that should not be downplayed

Fair enough, but there's a distinct difference between "jumping on a trend" and taking an available sound and putting your spin on it. If any of those artists made skrillorx style dubstep to appeal to mass markets then yeah that's jumping on a trend.

But to compare somnl and dark steering to "brostep" is assinine. Those songs are distinctly by their respective artists. There is a certain degree of generic-ness that should be assessed before it's just "jumping on a trend" IMO.. =/

I really like analord bonus. did the steinvord = afx rumor out to be true? The last time I did listen to steinvord did not convince me but I stopped following the steinvord mega topic after a while

im not very educated on brostep. it's like rap meets dubstep right?

aphex infusing his approach into both rap and dubstep with one song sounds brilliant.

may this meeting of worlds be most glorious.

where does it say that 'Aphex Twin' (or any other RDJ pseudo) is actually going to be on this song? are people just assuming that the Aphex tattoo shot and reference to a 'dearest friend' as collaborator means that RDJ is the performer? seems pretty hollow... what am i missing here?

it might not be. the untitled 9 and "untitled" tracks may just be afx apes, and the maelstrom track may just be a squarepusher ape, meaning the project's initial work is a well-executed marketing device and homage. or it could be pusher twin. idfk, i like to think it's someone new playing us all for tools.

my thoughts exactly. It's likely just a big troll with RDJ's permission.

Where does it explicitly say Aphex Twin? I've only seen the "hang man" with missing letters?

it was officially established like almost a year ago that Aphex Twin would be appearing on the new Die Antwoord album, im guessing you probably weren't paying attention
