through the years, a man peoples a space with images of provinces, kingdoms, mountains, bays, ships, islands, fishes, rooms, tools, stars, horses and people. shortly before his death, he discovers that the patient labyrinth of lines traces the image of his own face.

this song and video always hit me hard with a kind of nostalgia for something i've never experienced. have cried to

I'm hardly a closed minded nun. Remember, I'm on a fucking IDM forum.... an IDM forum.. Think about that for a second before claiming people are closed minded nuns.

afaik i usually place all my cum drops on scientifically sterilized glass slides which are carefully frozen and placed in trash cans throughout the city labelled "for women ❤️ alco" with my social security and phone numbers.

epic post, lot of new ones to me too

It's interesting how subjective this sort of thing is. I've been listening to many of the examples posted here, and obvious trolling examles aside, I usually can't imagine crying to most of it based on the music alone, without some other external factor that would make me cry anyway. It just goes to show how personal this sort of thing is. But I've got to agree that this one is sad as fuck:

I wonder what the most universally tear-jerkery tear jerker would be.

Elliott Smith's Tomorrow Tomorrow is so beautiful it almost makes me cry when I hear it, especially the bridge section at 1:44... pretty overwhelming on good headphones.

Lonesome Tears by Beck has managed to bring the waterworks a few times for me, but with a title like that and Godrich at the helm I suppose it's no surprise. Clever manipulative bastard.

Not sure if Bowie's Lonliest Guy has ever made me cry, but it's made my heart clench up a few times at the very least.

I forgot this one. I have a soft spot for this Hayden album, and the story in this one is fucking sad :[ :[

and this one is pretty fucked as well:

It is based on this:

↑ agree with all

second, i don't listen to 'songs' so i cant comment on that but i divide music with a strong emotional impact that makes my eyes go waterfall style in 3 categories:

1. generally sad (like the song above)

2a. sad (or more complex similar feelings) but also very intense... so intense that i can't physically endure anymore resulting with tears and usually that's what beethoven does to me

like the next few minutes from here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=vsG4mhVuqO4#t=1453

2b. could be seen as sad like the complete grosse fuge:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjUh11EPGcM

3. not sad (or similar) just very strong emotions and very intense, like the 9th symphony:

the only non-classical music that does this to me and in all other points from above is autechre so far. the example for the last point is the track that starts at about 20 min mark on the LA 2008 recording :'( thank god they perform in a dark. it was so intense i couldnt believe it!
