Everything up to and including Music for the Masses! :-)

Saw them in 1988 as a 13 year old, do you think that was awesome or what?!? And to top it off, Nitzer Ebb was the opening act. Holy shit.

Yeah Jason. It's genuine DM, but for me its too 80's, soundwise. Must say I like them a bit later. Also, I'm not into modern DM. I know, there was (is?) Mark Bell, but hey, never really tried DM at this flavour.

And I must add I regularly get out of order completely at the 13:55/14:00 epicness mark.

I can understand that, and you are right in regards to the sound back then. For me, this was the DM I grew up on - they consistently appeared on Top of the Pops/bothered the charts throughout the 80s, so were always in the background of my childhood in one form or another. I do like later DM (I've got all of their albums), but nostalgia plays a big part of my listening enjoyment with them.

I'm a Black Celebration kinda guy. Ultra is great too though, and every time I think Violator isn't as good as the others, I put it on and it's actually super awesome.

What's a good album/s to start with? (I've only heard one album and can't remember what it was but I remember enjoying it!)

I think we listened to Black Celebration that one time, yeah? That's a good one if you like everything drenched in reverb and gothy.

I think you'd enjoy Violator too; it's very clean/crisp sounding.

Actually, considering what you're into, you really can't go wrong with anything up to and including Ultra. I think they'd all satisfy your interests in different ways!

One of my favorite mixes of theirs... I remember back when this mix came out, I felt a bit nostalgic about them at the time. my favorite DM era is probably Black Celebration through Songs of Faith and Devotion.

After hearing Kraftwerk years earlier, Depeche Mode, New Order, Pet Shop Boys, and Nitzer Ebb kept my interest in electronic sounds until house and techno came along.

Now I'm interested in finding the single again! I remember other fine mixes in it... One was bass heavy and there was an instrumental that had the Music for the Masses vibe... I need to seek it out again!

Ah, one of my favourites. I vassilate between 'classic' DM (pre-Violator), and 'modern' DM (Violator-onwards). Some of my other faves:

Playing The Angel and Sounds of the Universe was their last decent albums, really not feeling Delta Machine at all.
