only have one Depeche mode record (kind of). record store had a bunch of singles but had one that didn't have a clear tracklisting so I pretty much bought it on a whim that it may not be a single, wasn't too sure, didn't really care it was pretty cheap. Turned out to be a james holden remix, which was a stroke of luck seeing as I quite like the dudes albums. Still on the look out for some albums thou...

For any UK residents, Sky Arts 1 is showing "Depeche Mode: Live in Berlin " concert right now (started at 9) shot on their last tour. It's repeated a few times over the next few days.

Love a bit of Depeche Mode.

Shamefully, with the exception of the Construction Time Again album, I'm only familiar with their singles/greatest hits. I've always wanted to check their albums out, but I've never got around to it. Which one would y'all suggest I dive into?

Was in Hot Topic with my daughter yesterday (I know...) and was flipping through their vinyl to see if they had anything interesting - Some Great Reward was staring back at me, and I felt like it was 1982 again...

Yeah Ultra is excellent!

I think I'm going to embark on a mission to acquire as many 80s DM 12" singles as I can. I was listening to the 81-04 remix compilation the other day and some of those mixes are bangin'!

grew up with some mates who were complete Depeche Mode obsessives.....

prolapsing when tickets for the Music For The Masses tour came out,

buying 101 the day it came out + infinite repeat viewings,

playing Martin Gore's (inferior) solo albums to death at any given opportunity (",,,but i got the new Cabs 12",,,,,,"),

and,,,, worst of all,,,, most of the girls at school were either in love with Dave Gahan or Martin Gore or Simon Le Bon or all of them all of the time

fuck, if only I had friends in school who were obsessed with DM, or any other good music for that matter. My girlfriend introduced me to them when I was 19, so I feel like I missed out on being into them as a teenager hahah.

slight detour, Alison Moyet is Essex way too..... the Yazoo track "Situation" she did with Vince Clarke is dance-floor gold,,,,,kitsch house thats never trite

and as mentioned above - props to DM for touring with Nitzer-Ebb = discovering the madness instrumental version of "Join In The Chant"

Yeah, I didn't know Nitzer Ebb were supporting DM on the MFM tour until I entered the venue and saw one of the band members (Duc Nhan Nguyen) hanging out. Their show was just mental, beating on corrugated metal plates, etc. That was just the greatest bonus, can't believe my luck in catching Nitzer Ebb at the age of 13.

Depeche Mode is good stuff... I always loved this vid, the dark imagery fits the song quite well, especially in that moment about a minute in when you figure out what's really going on with the car:

i'm don't want to be this guy, but some great reward wasn't released until '84. perhaps you meant speak & spell, or a broken frame?

LOL, you are right - this is what happens when you are an old fart like me!

I guess my failing memory hooked onto 1982 as that was when I heard "Leave In Silence" and got hooked on Depeche Mode (the standout tracks from Speak and Spell sounded too doo-wop 50's for my young brain back then)

That was certainly one of their more interesting videos... My favourite though will still be Enjoy The Silence.
