He has made some of the best electro I have ever heard and has always had a unique and individual approach to melodies and synth work. Here's to hoping he can overcome his hearing issues to release some new material, or even just old stuff from the vaults. I personally love the Music System volumes and Spider Report and want to hear more from those sessions.

He said he doesn't write new music cuz he has hearing issues? Or is he known on the streets for mad earwax buildup, etc.?

Yah, like 7 years ago I pulled all-nighters for weeks to work on music on modafinil, but the fucked up thing was that modafinil fucks up hearing, so I could not mix worth shit. OH THE IRONY.

Cylob- if you are reading this-- may your earwax be easily removable. Godspeed.

lol

no he's going deaf. He can't hear some frequencies anymore. He announced his retirement for this reason somewhere, his website maybe.

He said that he would no longer be doing gigs due to his hearing problems, however he did express that he was itching to get back to making tunes.

Oh interesting, thanks. He HAS put out the two ambient news albums since that announcement?

Unfortunately, if I recall, the Ambient News releases were previous to the announcement (99% positive).

Really hope he gets back to it. Spider Report / CMS Vol 1 and everything after is so unique and refreshing. No one else on the planet doing it like Cylob.

i emailed him a while ago to ask this very thing of where is he and his music but never got a reply. maybe he went all Tron like and disappeared inside one of his own computers forever spangling about riding the back of a byte or something

miss his take on music especially the older stuff

So I'm listening to a live show by ED DMX on Rinse FM as we speak, and now he's spinning Aphex and talking about Syro, but he will be playing... a NEW CYLOB TRACK?

Same here, I've been totally into his stuff recently, got both Kinesthesia 12"s recently, found Lobster Tracks in a dusty ol' second hand blues record shop (together with another Rephlex release) as well as both Cylob Music System volumes and Cut The Midrange. All in the last month or so! And I finally ordered Bounds Green last week too :)

The track was just played, it was proper electronic Cylob back in business. It'll be released on some compilation (couldn't make that out) early next year.

Well, that's not Cylob anyway :)

Make sure you check out Bounds Green as well! And Cylob's Ventolin Remix is one of my alltime fave remixes.

omg nice hull.

only physical cylob I own is Kinesthesia Volume 1, which I got from a record fair. most people were selling old rock, 70s/80s stuff. one guy had venetian snares, aphex and that one cylob ep. mine mine mine. (although .. I haven't listened to the cylob ep much... tbh)

I might grab bounds green while I have the opportunity. maybe along with CN ?? :)

Volume 1 is brilliant though! Fairs like that are brilliant, so many gems they don't know about! I even got those two Rephlex releases for free with the rest because to the guy behind the counter they were just crappy 'ol house 12"s that nobody wants.

It's funny because that day in that second hand shop (in some small town) I met that Motor City Drum Ensemble guy, so we had a dig or two as well.

Yeah, definitely order more with that CN, then you don't feel so bad about those shipping costs + Bounds Green is really cheap :)

otherwise it would have been an excuse... Because Beethoven, Evelyn Glennie, Gabriel Fauré, Bedrich Smetana and so on have continued to compose and play music... and myself i really am deaf... the disability is not an obstacle to any activity, sorry...

I asked him if this is a track pending for release, his reply:

@hrrjn: thanks. i'm not sure.. it was just an exercise in making lush strings and recording and playing back cv control signals, and then it became an exercise in finishing a track and it was uploaded 10 minutes after completion. so too soon to say.

No indication at all. I'd say it's none of our business. Maybe it is a business (Rephlex) related issue, maybe it's personal in which case we shouldn't even bother.

It's sad in any case, but I'm glad Cylob is back in the game :)
