This just in: Musician too lazy to learn how to play any instruments himself, commissions robot to be built to play for him.

Hey, if it was good enough for Squarepusher... :emotawesomepm9:

This is a great idea. Sometimes my least favorite part of electronic music are synthetic drums that sound very cheesy when some real thwack boom tssshhhhh is the obvious better choice. I'm glad RDJ gets it. Why don't you get it Christ?

yeh i've always wondered if there's any company that sells robotic midi operated doodads that you could make noises with by having them smack things or do things

but never looked

i know smart ppl can just make their own anything tho. but someone should sell a line of these types of things

15 years ago i thought it would be cool to fill my walls with noisy things and solenoid hammers operated via midi. but i didnt do it.

i drew a supercar when i was 7. it looked cool

if i spent all that effort to make music robots, i would definitely invest in some anechoic chamber.

also i prescribe using 360 microphones in a circle that can be panned like the matrix film effect.

a simple pm of thanks would be nice if you use the idea Richard/Tom

Don't bloody give him an excuse to delay even further. Besides, i hear that panning and cut and res on the source can achieve essentially the same results, especially if there's no resonance to worry about like in that chamber. Otherwise we'd have to be adding varying amounts of reverb/delay to it as well to achieve the same result. ;-p

I've got it: Record a drum robot inside a car while the car is being driven by a robot. You have to build a special car just to hold all the gear that is required, then build a robot to drive it. And so when you listen on headphones at home, it sounds like you're listening to music in the car. But if you listen to it in the car, it just sounds like you're listening at home on headphones. (It's all binaural of course.)

Sorry, the resulting release will, of course, only be on vinyl... Although there might be a later opportunity to buy un-mastered WAV files of the music on a website whose main page redirects you to a vinyl-buying site.

Sound travels in phasey waves and some of it is directional. Especially if a robot is equipped with an amplified instrument that is connected to a heterodyne ultrasonic electrostatic driver.

Edit...

Lol, I just realized how these robots might be a subconscious one-up over daft punque.
