The mind-boggling electro genius that is Aphex Twin

brought his unique kind of distorted madness to the renowned Glasgow Barrowlands for a fine spectacle. Rousing and conducting a pulsating swell of the 1900 capacity crowd, Richard D. James aka Aphex Twin helped bring down the curtain on the ever impressive Triptych Festival.

Drawing mainly on his recent ‘Analords’ album he brought to life thumping melodies, whipping the crowd into a wild frenzy of freaky musical fornication. The slow, progressive build up was expertly manned for the first 40 minutes before erupting into the hard hitting techno most were here to see.

Familiar tracks like ‘Come to Daddy’ and ‘Windowlicker’ were notably absent, although what was reassuringly present was the ubiquitous Aphex Twin face in the flesh bobbing up and down behind the laptops. Although we must point out that in no way was it attached to a small baseball wielding maniac kid, nor a gyrating hip-hop style hoochie as portrayed in some of his videos.

Richard D. James in all his wonderful guises defies all musical genres and conventions. A musical genius and master of innovation, even at the age of 11 he was building his own synths and recording respectable ambient music. He is a genre unto himself. He also owns a tank and a submarine. Enough said: Legend. Leave a comment on this article!

Totally! Going on about Come To Daddy and Windowlicker - get over these 2 tracks!! As IF he would ever play them at a gig these days! I dunno, did he ever play either of those live??

Also going on about the whole tank/submarine thing.....silly....silly.....

What an amateur.
