I'm with Bitroast 100%. I don't see any reason for albums around the 40 minute mark to be spread across four sides. It's a literal waste of vinyl.

I'm at work so "nice" is sufficient atm fyi afaik byob BBC.

I've since gone back to "you're dead" sober and otherwise and most of it just makes me cringe so hard, it's a complete throwaway album for me but it makes sense that someone that liked yeezus would like it (that's not a dig). All of these guest vocalists and random unintelligible female vocal samples just make me super cringe. It's like he's gone out of his way to make the album sound as "black" as possible (there's even flylo scat in there...). I get it, I mean he's a black guy he needs to represent but I'm just not a fan of the vocal styles represented here and it just sounds like he's trying really really really hard to represent these styles (almost like the album is a commercial to get other artists interested in working with him), whereas his other albums his hip hop and jazz influences were just there, didn't sound like a chore or labour to bring them into his music.

I can see how it might appeal to you but it's definitely not an album for me.

i just can't understand someone who really listened 2 yeezus or this new flyinglol and think it's shit

it's like saying pulp fiction was a shit movie, does not compute

I try. I try every time he releases an album. I want to like his music, I respect his music. That said, the only one for me is Pattern+Grid World. I fuckin' love that EP.

There are often hip hop centred albums with a jazz influence, but this is more like a jazz album with a hip hop influence. Very cool. The musicianship on this thing is out of this world. Also may be the least dynamic jazz album of all time, heheh. Between this album and UTQC, Flying Lotus is fast becoming one of my favorite musicians of the last decade.

funny because mostly i don't like music with vocals of ANY kind, but this one works fine for me! i even like the kendrick lamar feat. track (i like rap even less than most other vocal styles)...

lol. also true.

so this album turned out way better than i thought it would:

before listening / knowing snoop dogg was involved: 7.2;

after snoop dogg info: 4.1;

after listenining: 8.6!!

Yeah, I don't get the hate. This is probably my favourite release from him. Wish it was mastered for maximum jazz lushness instead of maximum volume. /old fart

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

I actually really like the lamar track on vinyl (didn't like it when I first heard it, and I'm surprised because it might be my favorite off the album), especially lamar's section and the more electronic/instrumental section. I don't think the flylo scat was necessary though and that part really bugged me.

The mastering bugged me a bit, but I generally play my music kind of loud so this didn't bug me too much. I don't like it on headphones though or my small monitors/bookshelves.

I imagine if you heard an original Fly Lo mix it would already be compressed/limited to the ceiling to achieve that sound he's going for, same as Clark. The mastering just takes those bulldozed dynamics and makes them even louder... thought I suspect some of the distorting that occurs is mastering related. The loudness thing actually sounds pretty cool in my headphones most of the time, brings out a lot of texture porn, but through my studio monitors it sounds like mush.
