I like this way more than Moment Of Hesitation which was kind of boring imo. Love the way it seems to develop into several tracks, especially the instrumental part at the end of the tune :music:

Yeah, both tracks are amazon. Though maybe it isn't "new" stuff, I guess, that's why the hate. But, hey, good music is good music.

I don't HATE it, I just prefer all the bits without vocals. I really like the last minute and a half of that track.

I'm growing less interested with each track I hear. I guess I'm learning I'm just not a flying lotus fan after all. I hear hardly any originality at all. the new aphex and Clark are going to tower over this in a massive way. bummer I'm realizing I don't like his stuff.

the art is so damn cool though

Oh yeah, me and you were the ones who were apprehensive about vocals.

Honestly, I would prefer a purely instrumental FlyLo album (maybe with some incidental vocals here and there). But all things considered, I do dig the new tune. And if I'm gonna listen to a dude spit over someone's beat, it might as well be FlyLo's beat.

Is this what radio stations do these days when they have an exclusive track to play? When I buy the record and play that track now I'll have "This is a power 106 world premiere....l.a. leakers" looping in the back of my head. On a positive note, I'm really looking forward to hearing it in proper form.

A dude. Besides Herbie, Kendrick is probably the most talented mutha involved in this album.

What seems to be the problem?

Reminds me of Cosmogramma a lot, and the rapping doesn't detract from it as I was worried about!

So it's a new direction for FlyLo really, a combination of previous directions + even greater influence of jazz. At least on this one track.

i totally agree with you. i've never understood the hype for flying lotus because his sound is very much in the vein of detroit techno, and especially this song with kendrick sounds just like steve spacek. not really a sound i'm into but i can occasionally find a tune i like, but with flying lotus it's so much less so.

After a couple listens I've noticed that this track totally seems to pull from all his past records and their individual sounds (-1983 maybe).

Like,

The very beginning of the track has that loose, sampled, jangly percussion that was all over LA

Then it lurches straight into a full blown Cosmogramma feel (spacey, druggy, live instrumentation over a fast tempo, complete with Thundercat bass)

2:20 on is more along the lines of the synth-y minimalist feel that defined Until the Quiet Comes, with the amazing last bit sounding a lot like the end of me Yesterday//Corded (imo)

This is the first time where it feels like Flylo is comfortable/capable of just pulling these little bits of his signature sound into the mix and keeping the execution controlled and enjoyable (while still sounding like a jazzy drug-fueled adhdsplosion)

Also this is the only time that I have been able to enjoy Kendrick Lamar in any way whatsoever, so thats a plus.

I am excite now. I had my doubts (as I always do - Until the Quiet Comes was a major disappointment imo) but I think this has the potential to be fucking amazing.
