I think every BoC fan likes that. Remastering doesn't take any of that away, it's part of the original recording. Got the remaster yesterday and it sounds great

EDIT: nvm, I see you can on Blerp. The Wav/FLAC is currently 50 cents cheaper than the 320 mp3s. Makes sense...

Yep it's on bleep. And a weird thing I've just seen is that the mp3 version is 6,99 euros while the wav/flac one is 6,49. What gives ?!

Ok, so I copped the 2014 remaster in FLAC from Bleep.

The stereo channels for Nlogax have been flipped. You'll notice it straight away, from the first hi-hat tap. What was once left is now right, and vice versa.

Weird.

Had a couple of listens through the monitors. There is a definite distinction between the remaster and original. Everything feels smoother, with less crunch on the fringes which will doubtless rustle a few jimmies with purists. That's not to say the soul has been ironed out of these tracks - far from it, in fact - voice samples are a little more distinguishable in the mix, beats pop and punch with vigor, and bass retains a buttery flow throughout. Nlogax still bumps and grinds like a motherfucker. The dark n dank June 9th refuses to avert it's un-friendly fire from your weary ears. Everything You Do Is A Balloon drops the glorious synth ley lines it always did, only with increased HD (Haunting Definition). You'll still want to cuddle up to its intro on repeat at 3am on a wintry morn.

It does have a nice, analog warmth. Pretty lush, overall.

That said, I can't totally dig it. Nlogax is all wrong, like a horizontally flipped image of your favorite painting. Has anyone else noticed this?

I just checked myself - yep, that stereo flip is really obvious. Wonder what prompted them to make such a change? It's hardly ruinous to listening enjoyment, but a curious amendment indeed.

I mean, of course the bros can take whatever retroactive liberties they want, it's their music; but personally, and no disrespect to BoC, the sonic architecture of Nlogax has fused to my psycho-acoustic soul-brain over the years, I can't abide any structural fuckery.

Anyway, I fired up Audacity, split the channels, swapped left for right, recombined to stereo and voila, a proper Nlogax remaster.

LULZ. I just noticed... EVERY track has been stereo channel reversed! Ahaha, shit. Well played, brothers Sandison. Cheers.

I came out of lurking to see if anyone else has noticed this about the new remaster … and of course some people have. Anyone care to speculate on which is "correct"? (FYI, just to confuse the issue: "Smokes Quantity" on the new Hi Scores remaster has the channels reversed compared to the same track on Music Has the Right to Children, but "Seeya Later" on the Twoism CD and the new Hi Scores remaster have the same channel orientation.)

I don't think that BoC would care about their vinyl getting repressed and remastered. They probably haven't even heard the remastered CDs/vinyl. Hi Scores 1996 is the good version. This one is shit
