How often do people replace their phones? The Apple fanboys surely upgrade their phones whenever a new one comes out. How about the rest?

O, the prejudices of anti-apples zealots....

*rolleyes*

I'd liek to wager that would have lots to do with the deals those providers have. Whether or not someone is an apple-fanboi.

I guess the provider subsidies plays a role if one upgrades or not. But how many upgrade just to have the latest shiny toy and not because their current one is somehow misbehaving?

Euh....people upgrade often for a variety of reasons. Wanting an upgrade is one of them, obviously. Others are "misbehaving" phones. How many people do you know with broken fronts and/or dead pixels? I'm sure there are lots of reasons for people to need a new phones every ... 2 years? Just a guess...

My 2 year service plan ended yesterday. It was a monstrously overblown plan that had become massively surplus to requirements, I was very fortunate that my employer paid it as a business expense, I would never have taken it on otherwise. I finally tipped over to a 4G plan, albeit a SIM-only one, but the timing is really dangerous, even the woman I spoke to on customer services was all "Are you considering an iPhone 6 upgrade?", but no... I don't need it. I'm picking up a SIM-free 4G Moto G in the next day or so (donating the 3G model to my Dad). A nice bonus is the inclusion of a MicroSD card slot on the 4G model, didn't realise until this morning. 4G SIM is on the way, and I get 2GB of monthly data which is a fine enough chunk of change.

I used to be desperate to upgrade over the years, but it's nice to be out of that arms race and just chill back with a device that gives me exactly what I need without having to pay the earth.

i went from a 3gs to a 5. hopefully this 5 lasts me until the 6s.

every 3 years or so for me i guess.

The good thing about this is I made a killing riding the stock prices like I was on North Shore with my long board, brah. Was able to sell my 101 mis-buy at 101 and a bit, then I came back to short at 102 down to 98, then rode the tube up 99 to 101, and I was out. Made several thousand dollars in a few hours. Unfortunately, this was with Investopedia's stock simulator game. Fortunately, I've been doing this shit since 2008, and I'm averaging 30% yearly return, like, forever-- which after some research, just last week I realized that that is actually really fucking good. Unfortunately, I don't have $100,000 to play with at the moment to do it for realz. Fortunately, I'm IDM'ing pretty hard now, so when I have excess cash I can do this for fun-- because even though the extra money would be great, it's actually one of the funnest strategy games I've ever played. It's better than Sim City 2000 with porntipsguzzardo.

Read about this earlier  Some people I know throw their phones around without a care in the world, those are the ones who are going to experience this sooner rather than later if it's a widespread manufacturing issue.

I'm just glad Joyrex's iBend is a work handset and that he didn't pay out any money for this 'functionality'

i'd usually totally go for the "haha stupid dumbasses can't use their phones carefully" but the fragility of the current flagship phones and phablets (both samsung and apple)is really annoying, they can't even survive a fall from the pocket height. they really have to work harder on that department and not leave it to offshoots like the bloated "active" series in samusng's case and make the fucking things sturdy enough. it just doesn't feel right when a thing that weights less than 200 grams and costs many hundreds of bucks is ruined after a little bit of carelessness.

just look at this shit:

I recently held a 6 Plus at my local Apple store - it's stupidly light and thin - I currently have a 5, and it feels meaty and substantial compared to the larger 6 Plus. I plan on putting mine in a minimal case to protect it from scratches (apparently, it's the same style of aluminum they use for Macbook Pros and is terribly scratch-prone) and any drops (I've only dropped my current phone a few times, mostly from it slipping from my grip because I didn't bother to grasp it properly, and no damage resulted). The screen is gorgeous, and I love how large everything is - very easy reading for my ever-ageing eyes!

I bent my iPhone 5S. But that was because I accidentally had it in the hinge of the train table when I tried to fold it up. Whoops

do these people that destroy "their iphones" for the "sake of science" get some kind of reimbursement? when i get a new phone i usually treat it like religious relic but i see people even putting theirs in a blender for the lawls and i'm somewhat confused how they're cool about that

the people who are doing stuff like that usually have zillions of views on their channels, meaning they're monetized as fuck.

I fall asleep on top of my iPhone 5c all the time so you bet yo ass I won't be shelling out for some flimsy bling bling telephone.

I think you have to use the term "EDC" at least 3 times a week to be able to pull off that case.

checked out an iphone 6 today in an apple store. i gave it the bend test (with a firm but not insane amount of pressure) and it didn't flex at all. i don't expect the phone to ever undergo more than that amount of pressure under normal use or while being in your pocket so i am fine with the durability of the 6.

i still think the phone is too damn big. felt a little awkward in my hand but i'm still used to my 4s. i could see perhaps getting used to it over time but i think it would make more sense to make a smaller sized iphone an option in the future. not everyone has huge hands.

those drop and solidity test are irrelevant to me, i'm not supposed to drop my phone, i'm still having my 4s and not a single scratch,

bough it when i dropped on the floor my 3s 2 years ago.

the only thing i can complain it the fact that iOS can't be updated innit since my iPhone isn't adapted anymore,

this is a shame, how on earth something that i own could become obsolete by the will of its constructor only with the purpose to make me buy a new one ?

i love Apple, i got 2 iMacs, one iPad, and 2 iPhones at home, plus tiny accessories everywhere,

but their policy of consuming is bad, they oblige you for many things,

i hate that,

but functionally i never had this pleasure with any android or PC
