Guess what the new shit is

Recommended Posts

Much love to impakt, one of the best board denizens here imo. That said, I absolutely think Steinvord is RDJ and TJ as described in the other thread. But no matter.

Serious dearth of specualtion happening now in this thread. We must rectify this. w/r/t new shit.

I get the feeling some of Joyrex’s clues have been deliberately misleading, perhaps? Much has been specualted about w/r/t the “not new music” clue, perhaps simply because we are hoping that it could be new (to us) music anyway.

Not sure what to make of “funny you mention gear”…

And also interesting is the fact that Richard, Joyrex, and Warp are somehow each involved at least a little bit in new shit. And presumably, web hosting prowess is required… although it will be watmm bearing the brunt of the web hosting, and not Warp or Bleep?

I dunno. Now I’ve confused myself. Specual away…

If you ever thought Steinvord was Squarepusher then it's obvious that you can't see/hear past the DSP and you've missed out on the "essence" of Squarepusher which is his meticulousness, groove and melodic work. Steinvord sounds like a trite copy in comparison. Pointless outtakes at best.

Im sure if Steinvord released something like "I wish you obelisk" you would have said the same. The tracks are not pointless, they have a clear direction. As far style goes, how does Cyg x-1 sound like Squarepusher or anyone else or "an outtake" of something? Try again. You are just jelaous that a 15 year old on garageband shits on you.

Fucking retard. I wish you obelisk is not bad, I've always liked it. Do you know why I know Steinvord is not Squarepusher? Because I have friends from Rephlex. And you're making it into some pissing contest, which is it not. And if it were, I would produce Steinvord back to the stone-age. Please fuck off and die, fanboys. You can't tell shit from shit.

So far you've given no evidence as to anything you're saying other than "our ears can't hear the subtleties of aphex and squarepusher" etc so why don't you take a nice giant jump off a tall bridge instead of insulting people here?

Also I can hear several stylistic similarities to SP/Tom's work and could sit here all day pointing you to specific tracks and sections of tracks that confirm this but you're too stubborn and ignorant to agree even in the slightest and make any concession. The point is, you DONT FUCKING KNOW.

None of us do. So assert whatever you hear as fact all you want but don't insult people.

That's because it's a fanboy emulating Tom's sound, and it clearly sounds that way.

hey Impakt,

why was Steinvord released on Rephlex?

why is there a Steinvord speculation thread in the Aphex Twin subforum?

why is Steinvord anonymous?

why did WT7 collapse at free fall speed from just some fires?

I don't know WHY it was released on Rephlex, but I have confirmations on who it isn't.

Why is this thread in the aphex forum? I don't know, Joyrex trolling?

Because being anonymous is VERY VERY IDM.

It was released on Rephlex because of the same reason stuff like dave monolith, JK or EOD got Rephlex releases. Great tracks. You'll have to deal with that fact there.

Yay I agree with you on something

Am I the only one who didn't really like the steinvord stuff? It just sounds like DSP+acid exercises to me. No lushness that I would expect from aphex or squarepusher (even in his somewhat throwaway DSP wank tracks).

yes you are

No he's not. The stuff on the release whilst technical, to me the lacked the cohesive, intuitive direction you would expect, or just that hook based joy warm joy.

Still though it has been years and I skimmed em hah. And for the record I thought split release too between those two as well, this is what everyone thought omg what's going on watmm, we have new aphex and more on the way/!!!!

A member of the non sequitairiate.

Listening to the non-digital vinyls instead of the bad rips that were floating around initially increased my estimation of Steinvord significantly, as it does have a great atmosphere and drive to it, but it's definitely not top-tier stuff.

I've been throwing it on a lot lately, though, mostly as an alternative to caning drukqs or go plastic for the millionth time as background music.

Still get the sense it's more of an open collaboration than anything, like a rephlexian gescom. With Tom on bass, or samples thereof, on backyard, probably.

I wonder if Richard is surprised or excited about how well received and how many ppl bought Syro. If at one point he seriously wondered if anyone would care anymore, I'm assuming he must be pretty thrilled. To thrilled to bother checking his email for a long while probably.

... but Richard's a busy guy these days.

You mean between wife, kids, gear addiction, creation addiction, juno records shopping addiction, and scouring the conspiracy corners of the web?

Is it going to be a big white poster with all these suggestions written on it in black with corresponding dates and times of posting or something equally interesting

Sean Ae yeah so many of these analogue forums are people 90% bragging ang 10% uploading tracks that go fdghfgdhfddhgasfgdsfdsahfdfhdsgfgds

The new shit is definitely ice water with ice.

I respectfully disagree with the red part. The Steinvord EP is a pretty spectacular record.

So, anyway... looking forward to the eagerly awaited AFX-mas album. Tracks like who's that ginger kissing mommy and phexing 'round the xmas tree are bound to be straight up bangers. Kanye will be ripping that shit for decades to come.

Can you imagine a proper Aphex xmas album?

It would be like Mannaheim Steamroller took a shit load of acid and road the magic school bus through Stockhausen's body.
