OH MY GOD SQUAREPUSHER USED

Recommended Posts

Guest Duke Remington

had this revelation today

that explains alot. record the midi data playing the drum pads, map the breaks, change the data were needed. thats how he gets his beats. and that explains why hes SUDDENLY so good at playing drums on ultravisitor.

yep, thank me, WATMM, another mystery solved for you by my brain powers.

hehehehehe.........

yo Barney Fife, leave this mystery alone......

he can play the drums well, in a jazz since, but not like what we here on his pure and beat-programmed electronic tracks......

that is why people program them, because it is next to impossible to play those rhythms in real-time.....and impossible for anyone to play drill style drums........

sorry to burst your cocaine induced nose blood bubble.... :omg:

if you're recording on midi drums .. it's probably a useful way of quickly getting drum patterns and rhythmic ideas into the sequencer .. i've allways wanted to do this cause i forever tap on things anyway ... hrmm ... anyway besides that ... he prob. just does alot of annoyingly boring programming like the rest of us .. + cuts up preexisting breaks and fux .. ;-p ..

I feel the activation as well!

sequencing in real time is common, but you always go back and correct and change and makes things different nad/or better then what you played the first time.....

unless you are a robot! :fear:

listen to hard normal daddy and imagine a guy playing on an electronic drum. all the velocities, the fills, everything. all that hardware sequencer is bullshit just as much as when he implied he used cut up tape in an interview. lol.

programmed music at it's best sounds like venetian snares. not groovy.

Boxcutter grooves the fuck out..........! :omg:

but he does use a lot of samples.........

and beat programming at it's best cannot be boiled down to Snares.....

not with the Twin making tracks like the Boxenergyremix trk.......

DUDE! like :omg: !

my r-8 has a nice set of 16 (4 x 4) velocity-sensitive pads. you can "program" it by tapping in the rhythm in real time. 1989!!!

Dude, if you want to hear what very tastefully and painstakingly programmed madness can sound like, but remain very human and groovy, listen to Conlon Nancarrow (studies for player piano). Nobody can touch this guy, not even in electronic music. He did all of his shit on a modified player piano.

Tell that to Paradox.

Is this thread a joke?

Also, squarepusher's style is so easily duplicated using traditional methods in trackers/sequencers that there is no way it was drummed by pads. And how come in his setup he had no drum pads in the video? The swing comes from what breaks were used.

i think its partially true that he could easily be using either a) midi keyboard b)drum pads c) mpc or equivelent finger pads to play in drum beats at half tempo like 80bpm and then speed them up for the real song. Of course these would be edited, modified, and manipulated to have neat tricks and glitches. Obviously the snare rushes and drill effects couldnt be done live, those are probably either step sequenced or draw in by hand.

hmm apparently you dont understand the concept of REPROGRAMMABLE MIDI DATA.

REPROGRAMMABLE MIDI DATA WAS INVENTED BY THE VENETIANS CIRCA 1973 IN ORDER COMBAT THE GROWING INFLUENCE OF THE HYPERBOLIC TUBULAR BELL ALIENS UNLEASHED UPON MANKIND BY MIKE OLDFIELD. AT FIRST IT WAS NOT THOUGHT THAT DEEP, MEANINGFUL WORK COULD BE CONSTRUCTED VIA REPROGRAMMABLE MIDI DATA, BUT THE INVENTION OF COMPUTERS, SEQUENCERS, AND MIDI HELPED THINGS ALONG GREATLY. AROUND 1985, REPROGRAMMABLE MIDI DATA EXPLODED ONTO THE SCENE, AND QUICKLY DRIED INTO A HARD CALX ON THE SKIN OF ANYONE NOT QUICK ENOUGH TO WIPE IT OFF. SINCE THEN, REPROGRAMMABLE MIDI DATA HAS BEEN AN INEFFABLE ASPECT OF THE electronic music WANKER SCENE.
