Of course that graphic had to have been done by some "design group." So our transportation systems have been decidedly automobile-centered for a while now? Yeah, no shit. As both a longtime cyclist and a practicing civil engineer (in transportation infrastructure no less) this type of oversimplification is pure wank. What is the straightness (or lack thereof) supposed to represent anyway, convenience, accessibility, availability? It may come as a shock but transportation choices/options are also highly dependent things like how far you have to go to reach your destination and what resources you have at your disposal. We've got a shit-ton of sprawl throughout the developed world (another duh), and while I'd love to see more holistic approaches to transportation in the 21st century, this shit costs public money and lots of it, which unfortunately here in 'mericuh is tied up in making friends around the world with our military.
