Eat an entire container of Vegemite with a spoon and do tons of coke and stuff and vomit into a void of immorality, debauchery, and hedonism until you become a born again Christian. Then masturbate in public wearing a Santa costume. It beats cutting yourself.

that or Ayahuasca!

He's just happy to spread his infections and diseases to new remote areas of the world.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

Devote yourself to baking/growing the largest ____________ to be in the Guinness book of world records. Just being able to carry that book around, flip it open to the page where YOU are next to such luminaries as long fingernail guy will give you more charisma than you know what to do with.

i have a crazy idea. why don't you start an electronic music night in your closest large town?

that's what i did when i got bored with my life.

make a documentary about your neighbors without their knowledge or consent and use it to apply for a job in the FBI. Show up to their office wearing a magician suit and make a lot of awkward puns

GoDel, don't apologize for shit or mince your words.

I get that these days everyone's a beautiful & unique snowflake, and that everyone's in an existential crises from spending all day in an office and all night on WATMM (which Merck-sponsored psychiatrists insist is best dealt with by being placed in a constant narcotic malaise), but if anyone's that thin skinned that a little well-intentioned tough love is going to push them over the edge in response to their totally unwarranted & unjustified "boredom"... it's not like they were going to go on to do anything of value to anyone anyway.

Not everyone is worried about whether a person 'goes on to do anything of value to anyone' or not.

Some people genuinely wish happiness for others, and aren't just trying to fix them so they can be a 'productive member of society.'

Where/how did you get your attitudes about life and people?

I just don't respect or take seriously "first world problems" (of which boredom definitely is one). People are watching their families maimed by drone strikes every day and this kid has the nerve to whine about how he's bored with having the entire history of human knowledge and all digitized artwork ever at his fingertips.

Making someone feel belittled by their own emotions doesn't help them or people in other countries. There's a much more tactful way of going about what you've surmised.

"Tough love" often doesn't work in this context.

and saying people don't have the right to talk about smaller problems just because there are always people with bigger problems is a bit unfair and simplistic imo.

Boredom can be a very deep problem - bored people may have become detached from others and their own sense of direction. I don't think it's trivial and I don't think people should feel guilty for it.

Maybe it's a simple problem to solve in a way though, by being curious about other people and who they are, what they perceive, how they feel, and also not taking anything for granted (like Snares says he could sit and stare at a clump of cat litter for ages and not get bored)

"Whoa! Check it out! RO-BIGH-DUHS!"

sigh.. "That's Ribena.."

6 pages trying to get an emo out of the doldrums. Those telling him to do all the life affirming traveling should remember he's unemployed and has no money. That's probably why he's completely ignorant and unresponsive throughout 80% of the 6 pages.

Something else that Zizek sometimes mentions springs to mind - the Christian concept of grace - which means that "salvation comes from outside, it's not self-discovery" - the point being that sometimes you have to be open to the world around you instead of looking for answers inside yourself - in other words, listening to people, and also accepting that you are limited and imperfect

That's probably because he's got toxoplasmosis.

Nor just traveling - trying anything. Also one can travel for surprisingly cheap if one desires. If you are young and have no responsibilities, try a job in merchant shipping - get paid to sail around the world.
