^ OMG just the way they are standing really annoys me

We have sweet female attitude and yo better not mess with us ghosts because we women

Edited by fletcher

The trailer doesn't look bad, relative to the current state of comedy films. It is just a trailer though, and the first, so who knows maybe there's better jokes/fun/kewlstuff in the full film. Reading everyone's reactions to this is gold though...like, have you guys objectively looked at the original Ghostbusters, ever? It's fucking ridiculous. It's great, but it's just silly fun and often loses its path and falls flat. Love it, but it ain't nothing near perfect. The reboot-with-women aspect of it is totally a non-issue imo. Nearly any comedy film of the past decade or so (and of course all situational comedy ever) has a premise with baked-in jokes; the real test is if you can get quality people in it to turn it into a good film that goes well beyond the 'oh he's a male secretary LOL' set up.

Was thinking how the original trailer stacked up with the new one

Just on a completely different level - no slapstick shite, not obvious lines, proper tension. This is the first time I've even seen the 'old' trailer so not even nostalgia talking, just better in practically every regard.

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

You know what? Fuckit, I don't mind this trailer at all. It looks better than most comedies.

And you know what, if it hadn't been a new Ghostbusters movie people wouldn't be so up in arms over it. And another thing... Ghosbusters 2... it's not that great a movie. It's the exact same movie as the first one just with a lot less Bill-haha-Murray, but a lot more Bill-Murray-not-giving-a-shit-about-being-in-Ghostbusters-2. Try watching Ghostbusters 2 again with this in mind. He looks bored out of his mind and he's only wearing the Ghostbusters uniform once. And what's up with that ending? The best thing about Ghostbusters 2 is the jogging ghost, Vigo the Carparthian, Janosz Poha, The Scoleri Brothers, and the new Ecto-1... and that's it.

Also, I think the ghosts in this movie look pretty rad. They look like old school haunted house ghosts (with a lot more glow going on but whatever). Fuck the haters. I want to be naïve and excited.

I was just about to write what Squee wrote, saved me a lot of effort that.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

but that was the 80s and that's why it's a cult classic. remaking it and trying to make it as ridiculous for today's age is like re-telling an old joke and adding an explanation in case people still don't get it

there's also something imo more insulting about appropriating characters that were originally male to female for the sake of equality. i think it would work better if they wrote female character roles that were just as interesting as their male counterpoints so we didn't have to do the whole gender swap and it still seemed plausible eg. ripley or sarah connor

Yes, reboots are inherently cheap, everyone knows this, duh. :cerious:

"For the sake of equality..." I think that's where that line of thinking isn't correct, at least as far as any facts I've heard. If the director/writers/producers/whoever came out and said "Why yes! We changed the gender roles of the Ghostbusters reboot because we wanted to stand up for equality!" I'd call them fucking stupid and you would have an argument that I would support. Until they say that though, it's simply your assumption that they switched the genders for equality. Since I'm now forced to guess at the intentions of those parties in their construction of a reboot in Hollywood I would suggest that they went that route because: they thought it would bake in jokes, they thought it might be appealing to millennials as well as the aging nostalgic and generate media coverage (obv correct), the other 87 ideas and scripts that Akroyd tried to sell them were even more fucking ludicrous than gender-swap, and ultimately all of that it is because it would generate them big fucking fat wads of cash. I seriously doubt anyone had a serious conversation describing how 4 mis-matched ladies taking over a mildly-beloved franchise about hunting ghosts was even slightly 'for the sake of equality.'

except we know the original idea was to reboot the franchise with the original cast until ramis died, murray refused and reitman (original director) pulled out and eventually, even ernie hudson was vocal about how it all sounded like a bad idea

so i actually do believe they 'had a serious conversation describing how 4 mis-matched ladies taking over a mildly-beloved franchise about hunting ghosts was even slightly 'for the sake of equality.' but you're right, that's just mine opinion

I wonder how the original Belushi/Akroyd Ghostbusters idea would have turned out.

Positive Metal Attitude

I hear Akroyd is a greasy coke + hookers type these days. I wonder what Kristen Wiig thinks of his big fat old ass.

Dude is literally a ghost expert...he wrote a book on the history of "spiritualism"

I bet he thinks coke is just ghost powder

He's so off his rocker. Arrest the aliens visiting us, FBI. Love how in his mind cocaine is the only drug worth mentioning.

Not gonna lie tho... I want a bottle of that skull vodka so I can make a siccccccckkk bong out of it.

There's a new trailer out. Looks better. But people will still hate it no matter what.

that's because it's still a shit looking film

well, the 2nd trailer pretty much shows the whole movie, no need to watch. Chris Hemsworth is the badguy amplfying the signal to bring all the giant ghosts & staypuft 2.0. They win. the end.

Thanks user487363530. And user4873635301. Now 48736353001.

It does look better, but it's just really er... not exciting still. I also can't take Melissa McCarthy and Leslie Jones.
