I'll be the one parked in the alley with a black windowless panel van with a sign on the door that says "PLS ENTER HERE FOR TASTY, FUN, REAL, SAFE FREE AE TIX. PLEASE ENTER!"

Just look for the plate!

You guys just might just give the venues reason to increase their security.

I haven't been to an ae show before, and I haven't been to U Street before. What should I expect there? Would you recommend bringing my earplugs to this show? Ever since that Swans concert, my hearing has been pretty awful so I want to be careful from now on.

You should bring earplugs just in case, but in my opinion you won't need them at U-Street. The venues/parties with legit sound systems properly calibrated by soundguys who know what they're doing (like U-Street) should actually not give you tinnitus at all.

I'd definitely bring them, any decently loud sound for more than a few hours will cause permanent hearing damage. Shows always sound clearer listening with earplugs anyway

Good call on the earplugs. I'll make sure to bring some too.

Yeah, that's sort of why I want to bring them. Whenever a show gets too loud my hearing ends up distorting about an hour into the set and at that point I can no longer discern the individual sounds and it all just sounds like a big distorted mess to me. Not all shows do that, but louder ones like a lot of metal shows always do.

What earplugs do you guys recommend?

Etymotic ER20 (or Hearo Hi-Fidelity plugs, which are the same thing), but it's a bit of a pain in the ass figuring out which size to get the first time (basically buy both the large and the "standard" (small) and try them and eat the cost). And I usually bring a pair or two of cheap foamies that will cut 32 dB, just in case it's absolutely brutal; though the foamies muddy the highs too much. The ER20s will only cut around 12-20 dB with less of an impact on clarity, though there is still an impact.

Also make sure you twist them when you pull them out, I fucked my eardrum on Saturday at a concert with an absent-minded pull-out, and I totally knew better. So no ringing or muddied sound post concert, but two days of ear popping and painful yawns). Oops.

See, I wasn't sure if I should go the ER20s or the ETY Plugs. The Etymotic website has an ETY Plug combo w/ both sizes for the same price as the ER20s which is quite tempting.

I don't go to concerts much, but my right ear hasn't been picking up bass all that great lately and higher frequencies are beginning to hurt. Thanks for convicing me to go with Etymotic though!

this place already has a little bit more of a fascistic mid 90s SF club vibe to it, the bouncers act tougher and there are more of them than necessary for the space. definitely not as casual or relaxed as places like Public Works or F8

I can't believe it's at the Social. I can't wait!

Cool, didn't know there were Orlando WATMMers. The Social is probably my venue of choice for this, I am so fucking pumped.

Some questions -

1. Does Ae usually sell swag?

2. How "live"/distinct are their shows? Thinking of catching the Miami show the next day because holy shit Ae is in the united states.

I logged back into watmm out of sheer excitement for this tour. Still in disbelief they're playing in the downtown of my city...and in a venue small enough to smell their sweat  wouldn't mind running into others from here though. Already taking two buddies, one of which is yet unfamiliar with ae :whistling:
