Joyrex
I don't know why everyone's bashing Nintendo - I didn't think they did too bad, and while what they did show was pretty par for the course for them, it's understandable that with the NX looming on the horizon, nothing they are going to announce now is going to be jaw-dropping. That being said, Nintendo rarely releases shoddy games, and out of any developer, I think they have one of the highest levels of production out there. Splatoon is an excellent example of the amount of thought and polish they put into the game, and the fact it's a new IP to boot (the first one for Nintendo in a long time). logboy
nintendo do have a habit of including some kind of innovation in their consoles that it's perfectly easy to ignore. last two machines didn't even get fully utilised by their own studios. wondering what the next one is. suspect patience has worn thin for most. some solid stuff on wii u, 3DS, but it's nothing fresh enough to be exciting to any great extent. juiceciuj
nintendo have been very innovative in the obnoxious unnecessary peripheral game for years, yeah (i despise amiibos and everything they stand for). only half decent stuff they have coming is mario maker and wooly world. if wooly world follows the same model as epic yarn (unlimited lives) i'm not gonna bother with it either =\ Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/87864-e3-2015-the-thread/page/10/#findComment-2336286 Share on other sites
ambermonk
Seems like the last time I bought any Nintendo products was five or six years ago. Not necessarily knocking them, and in fact they put out some solid SNES titles back in the day. Since they released the Wii almost a decade ago it seems like they've primarily focused on making child-friendly games. Nothing wrong with that. It's just that most Nintendo titles these days don't really appeal to me personally anymore. Dunno if I've outgrown Nintendo or what. Bechuga
If kids were Nintendo's target demographic, they would be making FPS shooters with headset capability that allowed for full expression of racial and homophobic slurs. Explains a lot Rubin... Explains a lot... What is that supposed to mean? I feel completely justified in my opinion of kid's games. If members are referring to teens, then yes, a lot of them play M rates games, while loving the freedom to mouth off with their friends on XBL bc mommy and daddy aren't listening. As for children, if their parents actually supervise what they have access to, like a responsible parent would, then their interests are, by nature, more innocent and less violent. My 8 year old nephew's favorite game is Minecraft, he loves it to death. My girl's 3 nephews are obsessed with Pokemon, they have no interest in home console games, and all of these kids I mentioned play almost exclusively on 3DS, or tablets, even though they have consoles sitting there. The fact that a lot of us have nostalgia for Nintendo, or other pop culture phenomena like Star Wars, LEGO, whatever, should not blind gamers to the fact that we are a piggyback audience, not the target demographic. Once you hit your mid 30s, that starts to sink in as you see younger people in the spotlight; actors, musicians, tech gurus, etc. It's a tough pill to swallow, but it's just a fact of life and part of growing old gracefully. Rant finished. Honestly, now that I'm looking at this from a new perspective, the worst part about Nintendo's presence at E3 was really the digital event that started it off. That's been the only sore spot in the majority of their coverage. Their Nintendo World Championship thing was a brilliant way to capture that feeling of Nintendo nostalgia and whoever thought of bringing that back deserves a promotion. The ongoing Treehouse stuff on Twitch has pretty much answered every question about all their games for the next year and they showcased a wide variety of both first-party, third-party, and indie games. And it wasn't just like a trailer but it was like substantial 30-45 minutes showcases of those games. Like watching those 3DS demos of the Metroid and Zelda games has gotten me hyped for their eventual release because you could see the excitement of both the people playing and those who developed the game. I think it was a mistake to have that mini-Nintendo Direct before E3 that announced the Smash Bros. DLC and Earthbound Beginnings and it would have made more sense to include that stuff in their digital event. Like imagine the amount of hype they would have gotten if they had announced Roy, Lucas and Dreamland 64 DLC in the middle of that digital event and then at the end done the old Apple 'one more thing' and shown off Ryu and his stage DLC and then to announce that all that would be available as soon as the digital event was over. I also think it was a mistake to slap the Metroid Prime license on that 3DS game. Don't get me wrong it looks like it's going to be a solid game mechanically but it would have had way more hype if they had announced it as a new IP or even called it something like Metroid Galactic Federation Force. Unfortuantely when Nintendo fans think of Metroid Prime, they think of two things (the "god-tier" console games or the substandard DS Hunters and that one pinball game). So announcing another Metroid Prime handheld game has lowered the expectations for a good majority of individuals. I still don't understand (Well I understand that they don't expect them to sell well and so they don't want to devote a lot of marketing money to those projects) why they refuse to show Devil's Third or Rodea: The Sky Soldier especially when after the backlash occurred they mentioned that they are only focusing on games coming out in the near future. It's like they forgot these games are releasing in August and September, respectably. And finally it seems weird that Reggie is trashing the current VR tech since most people think of Nintendo as innovators in the video game world. Like they're are certain times when I just wished the higher-ups wouldn't make public statements because it's just easy cannon-fodder to stoke the Nintendo hate bonfire. Guest bitroast
yeah^ bad. having their conference/digital event AFTER microsoft/sony/ea/bethesda and even after the nintendo world championship was a weird move. had they've just made their announcements early and then had fun with the games afterwards with the treehouse + championship stuff, i think people probably would have been more accepting. *should be working at nintendos marketing team* Wii U. terrible, confusing name. i would have called it the Super SNES.
