offtopic, i like that HTC kept going with having two speakers on the front of their phones, if i wasn't wanting something water resistant i'd probably have one of their phones cause it's nice to have something like that whilst i'm walking around at work.

I've got the HTC One M8 now, and the stereo sound coming out the front is surprisingly good (for milliwatt drivers anyway).

Aesthetics delete. On your night walks i would recommend Seinnheiser's

Reguarding headphones I'm back looking for a new pair of in-ear ones, theres too many to choose from. Can't be arsed with all the marketing bollocks so i just started looking at Sony ones again. Gonna buy these http://www.amazon.co.uk/...../dp/B00F0CQJFI

Yeah delete, these phones are lusher than Beats according to the reviews. In ear headphones are vital to the commuter or anyone. Looks like these are the best around.

I bought them already, im trying to convince myself they're better than Bose!! Mwah!

Reznor needs to get kicked in the teetha for being involved with this dreck. Obviously, he and Jimmy Iovine realize this is their chance to become billionaires, but at the cost of their professional reputations?

I've been really happy with my Sennheiser CX-215 in-ear phones and they cost like 30 euros. And they've lasted for at least couple of years when I usually need to get new ones almost every year because the connectors get all fucked up because I take them everywhere and I am really bad at looking after them.

beats are shit clearly and i know nothing about headphones

they do have good build quality though, my brother has some and the cable is like detachable so if the cable broke you can just buy another, and the entire headphones aren't ruined. dont know how common that is

At least some AKG headphones have detachable cables with a mini-XLR connector on the headphones' end.

lots of heaphone makers have shitty cables, so do phone chargers and any small consumer electronic item bar mouse and keyboards or normal usb cables. The cable to charge my ipad is like beyond delicate, i'm surprised it's lasted this long and it's only been a few months. It's called planned obsolescence, or designing things so that they break. It's not even about saving 5 cents on materials, it's pretty depressing really that in 2015 we still have to be fucked over by shit like this.

very true Lord Farr

back in the day (as in 90's) getting involved in shit like this would have destroyed his fucking career, but nowadays it's all fucking great and happy high five's (apologies for the swearing), acting like a millionaire business man, coporate whore? WTF is that all about? Back then this shit wouldn't have gone down well at all. I mean isn't he actually a hypocrite? It's just unacceptable in my book. Reznor is obviously a cunt.

Here's my compass bearing. I distinctively remember when Moby released Play in 1999. There was a big, big deal being made by music fans and the fucking press including The NME about how he liscensed every tune to advertising companies, how it was wrong and against the grain of everything that indie style music stood for. Go click on nme.com right now and witness the blitz coporate billboard going on there! Fucking lol. It's a joke. I guess times change huh?

That's why I still love Aphex, BOC, SP and Autechre. Those guys never sold their souls. And seems as they never will.

Detachable cables are the biggest selling point for me when it comes to the more expensive in ear monitors. I have had to bin so many £30 pairs over the years because of loose connections. I bought a pair of senny IE80s and haven't looked back since. I've only had to replace the cable once in 4 years. They are still going strong and sound fantastic. They probably cost me as much as I would have spent on multiple pairs of cheaper iems and sound much better. I think the fact that people are willing to spend money on headphones is great. It is definitely a huge market these days. I'm pretty sure that a small but reasonable proportion of people who initially buy beats will eventually start looking into other more respected brands, such as your AKGs, Sennheisers, Beyerdynamics, JHs, Noble etc. once they realise that they can attain better sound quality.

I bought a Sennheiser HD380 off of a headphone forum like new for 50 bucks shipped. infinitely better sound. the AKGs in the 200 dollar range amped properly gets one most of the way to the HD800, HE-6, etc. Beats are easily among the worst headphones I've ever heard.

rocking the HD380s right now. they've been my home pair for a few years now, not disappointed.

During that time, HTC slapped the 'b' logo on their smartphones and included various models of Beats earbuds - flagship phones got better sounding earbuds than cheap phones did. "Beats Technology" was the marketing tactic, and that tech was nothing more than a typical "Hip-Hop" EQ set as the default in the driver/DSP. Beats was literally selling an equalizer curve, and licensing it to other electronics makers so that even if the consumer didn't have Beats headphones he could at least still be part of the in-crowd listening to music via Beats Technology. Dre, Monster, HP, HTC, and now Apple are taking turns suckling from the teats of rap-minded sheeple, bless their hearts.

my HTC one came with the beats logo on the back. i immediately tried to scratch it out. got about 80% of it off lol

I've had the opportunity to listen through Beats headphones, and holy shit... It must have taken some truly dedicated hard focused work to be able to create such awful sounding headphones lol... They made those generic airline headsets from the 90's sound audiophile in comparison!

Completely unfocused, hazy sounding... Bass is just a bucket of mud... and it sounds like theres a straight up cut off (not even filter roll off) at like 5k lol

I also felt like i was awkwardly holding two transformer figurines against my ears when wearing them

Just popped in to say what the fuck are you doing to your cables? I've had the same iPhone 5 charger for 2 years, and it's been to Europe, Japan, and Southeast Asia with me.

I broke one pair of Sony in-ear buds, the cable was super super thin though. Otherwise prior to that I had a pair of AKG 240s that lasted 7 years before the foam molding over the ear cup wore out.

Now I can't even listen to music on the go cause after my phone got put through the wash, the battery swelled up slightly, blocking the jack.

Oh and beats were shit before apple bought them, and they're shit now.

Also I bet Dre rubs one out over justin on the daily.

I still own my Superlux HD681's hey, they alright. I gave away my Beyerdynamic DT880's for nothing - byebye. Won't give away my Superlux HD681's.

Headphones like the Superlux HD681 or whatever else seem interesting... When moving to Canadia Land I tossed my Sennheiser HD590 pair, which were greeeat, but I think I was maybe pissed off at the problems with the cord or cord input (known issues), hence a non-emotional toss. I do regret it now.

So I'm looking for replacements "in that range" (like Sennheiser HD650), but if there are some cheap yet somehow high-performing type sets, I may go for those. Since the "cheap yet great" works for mics, I suppose it can work for headphones? Gonna do some research on this concept... Trouble seems to be that people who buy cheap stuff don't tend to have high-end for reference AND/OR golden ears, and people with golden ears and high-end studios, don't use WalMart Studio Beatz Phonez 9000.
