Quite surprised to have it arrive exactly on the right day in New Zealand after being posted from UK. Bleep came through with that preorder.

bluh, i've just got them to keep one aside from my usual joint. Cause it's a westfield and there's a food court and supermarket and convenient not fucking around got to do while you're there stuff. won't be able to listen till whenever that happens them, sie whatever. if you're wonder why i've gone back to CD's from digitalz, well it's only for shit like this. Which will probably sit in my car cd player. Not played off my phone, i don't know it's then something i can put on when i don't really know what to put on. heh.

it's ok

couple of cool tunes, sounds like what it is -analord/tuss leftovers

not sure why these tracks made it as an official release-contractual obligation?

the soundcloud event and syrobonkers / syro really over shadow this for me.

funny how he is really holding the drill and bass stuff close to his vest and just letting lil drips and drops of it out

rhubarb sounds like 5/4 by my count

not sure about GX1 solo, 3/4, 6/4? not a pure 4/4 throughout for sure

Edited by jchgf

bleep once again never let me down, as always their service is exemplary

all my physical versions of ODS, MARCHROMT30a, CCAI 2, Syro have been upgraded to flac downloads, even the vinyl represses I bought some time ago of RDJ album and ICBYD have been upgraded to flacs

nice work :ok:

why does it say syro a couple times? modern love?

Maybe Peace 7 can translate some of this. Especially curious about the Reaktor and modern love reference

Um, not saying much, da whole ting. Mostly about Japanese Imperialism.

left-up point 3 is saying how he has his vibe and whatnot, whatev

left-down point 4, the digital hardware (early 80's) used in Syro was standout, then names some hardware, then says his hardware is nothing like those known ones cuz his shit is more unknown random shit... and that his choices are based on whether it can improve vibez... he also uses softsynths. but main point is whether the tools make the sound more interesting, improve harmonic content, etc.

up-right point 5, Syro was mostly hardware but some software involved for hard disk recording, guesses about combination of hardware to achieve effects, pushing headphone amps, etc....... analog hardware sound still superior to software for Richard... implication that he is against "DAW sound", despite Squarepusher and others using Reaktor and whatever else. But Syro was or general production is maybe about 50% computer stuff, and Richard even hired a Chinese programmer to write him custom software.

Somehow every section is about emphasizing the point that Richard is about vibez and works with vibez. It's like I wrote this thing.

GX1 is 6/8

Orphaned is underwhelming. Trackermatte's doing analogue techno better currently. Respek all the same; it's a good listen. I think I put too much hype into the buildup.

the way I think about this, and richard's recent output is that he didn't have as many of the long prolific periods since drukqs/analord, he had kids, he became a busy adult. He produced the analord and tuss output, then had some other tracks that were pretty great that didn't quite make a cohesive relase. The style matured in an amazing way, but not as much time for material, not as much to choose from, but still good enough to make a few albums out of before getting back to the recent output. Syro gave us a glimpse of what his recent work is like and on top of that gave us the majority of tracks we were all hoping to hear based on live sets, but even that was mostly older stuff. He's giving us all of these amazing soundcloud dumps, acoustic stuff, the cool tussy outtakes in this EP. I never would have hyped this EP, it's basically earlier tuss era bits some of which have also been played live(I've been waiting forever for simple slamming).

I don't think anyone should be setting expectations for this as his best work ever(for the time period, that would be the tuss tracks which is why they were released at the time), but it's still nice to have. There's plenty more to be heard, and I think this is really just a way to build up to his next LP, something more stewed, and cohesive, I can only hope. Still this is probably the most exciting time for a fan of his output, think about what has happened in recent times, mostly in less than a year! And it's still going.

Awesome little ep. I think I prefer neotekt72 at 45rpm. And from the sounds of it, it might have been the original speed.

Or maybe I was actually hired to write it (but I like to forget about it cuz I easily spent the money on whores who were tired and uninterested in doing their job).

GX1 solo is 4/4 but just triplet feel, to my ears anyway

It's harder to tell with the ambient stuff because it could just be a wonky rhythm, but yeah 5/4 sounds abour right for rhubarb..

I can't really think of anything off the top of my head that he's done in a non-4/4 time signature, except maybe parts of windowlicker where the glitched parts throw out the timing.. which is a cool effect, I wish dance music in general was more loose in terms of timing, I'd love to watch audiences try to keep up

Just gave the EP my first listen. Overall a good ep, but I do prefer Syro as it feels there is much more in there.

I don't have the feeling I'll hear anything new with multiple listens as i have with Syro, where still to this day I can listen to a track and hear something new every time.

Anyway, fav tracks of the ep up until now:

- Midi Pipe

- Oberheim blacet

- Neotekt72

Can beats be art? That's a discussion for another time. A definition however, which avoids elevating high art from low (or, top from bottom for that matter) would encompass activities with a degree of freedom of expression. Beats programming on the other hand, tends to be described in stark, mechanical terms. Yet if the process of step entry on a Sequentrix Circlon sequencer, has been so thoroughly internalised by it's user, that it can be gesticulated with all the elan of swatting a ping-pong ball, flying a frisbee or tilting a pin-ball machine, then programming metaphors may no longer be apt.

In other words, if the narrative of this concept album (the fictional plight of a poor young deejay, who has been orphaned by macro-economic forces in the music industry), was intended to portray a struggle, then it has failed. Instead, it sounds as if he is having far too much fun playing games at the local leisure centre.

terrible! I can't believe ... I don't believe it... I don't dream or... can download Syro, Computer Controlled..., Marchromt30... & orphaned deejay in wave or flac instead mp3!!! What happiness! Nice surprise !! All because I had orders from bleep since before 2010!

sorry 4 my broken english... there is too much emotion and I can not control myself: I tremble with joy!

I like this.

What a groovy EP. It's the first RDJ in a long time to make me tap my feet and dance involuntarily at home. Brilliant production and loving the acoustic elements.

Fair play Bleep. They really got the finger out on this one. Arrived in a timely fashion. No more pawing at the vinyl in store as I wait for my pre-order to arrive.
