It's pretty decent.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

Can't you really separate music from artist? I think Burzum is a racist ignorant smug cunt but I'm not gonna stop listening to Philosophem or Belus

Good point. Burzum doesn't beat women though. Oh wait, he murdered a guy. So yeah good point.

Also, I've never been much of a Dre or NWA fan. Solid songs but they always had more style over substance. TBH they had more impact and influence than they intended or were really consciously trying to achieve. In other words, people made them to be something more than they actually were artistically. That's why the new NWA movie, which looks very accurate and probably is to some degree (the casting and looks especially) it comes off as historical revision in terms of how they frame the music and it's origin.

I would argue Public Enemy's superiority anyday. You know why NWA wrote "Fuck The Police"? It wasn't harsh commentary on police brutality, it was because they were busted for driving around compton shooting random people with paintball guns in drive-by attacks. Literally the most stupid inexcusable bullshit when it comes to getting arrested by the LAPD.

I might get to this eventually, I like old G-funk as a sound and vibe but if I want that I'll listen to Dam Funk or something.

+1 couldn't have said it better

I wrestle sometimes as well separating artist from the heinous things some have done, I mean Danny Trejo killed a prison guard with a rock, but I still love his acting. Woody Allen, on the other hand makes me sick to look at him. Same with Roman Polanski.

Good thing Polanski is pretty well hidden then.

I think you guys are exaggerating your disgust with Dre just a little. Quite frankly I'd be surprised if he NEVER laid the smack down on a bitch. You know where he comes from.

What did you think he thought?

most idm album of the year, all in a days work

from what i heard (from a 3rd party not involved as far as i know) nicholson had suggested the mom and daughter combo because they were "easy to work with". he also suggested that roman use his house for the photo session and any other debauchery he felt like engaging in (i heard he was busted in a jacuzzi).

the girl (now a grown woman) appeared on tv a few years back and said a lot of what happened was "blown out of proportion" and she and her mom didn't have a problem with what happened- but i think her mom died so it's hard to verify (girl was 13. mom was ?)

btw: anyone going to watch the straight outta compton movie? here in la there are armed cops @ the theater :D

This album is weird. it's super disjointed. my main problem is that there are too many feat. artists to have any kind of narrative. doesnt really have a personality, just sounds like aimless production with a large budget to me.

I am kind of inadvertently comparing it to To Pimp A Butterfly, feels like a similar effort, similar goals. But TPAB is very focused aesthetically and lyrically, the features are all there as characters to play out Kendrick's story. This is kind of opposite, when Dr Dre's voice comes in every few songs, it's like, "oh yeah, I forgot that that's what this is about" and then a few bars later it's off the rails again

It's about Dr Dre the producer though, Dr Dre the rapper is mediocre at best.

I like that track but all the drowning sounds kind of make it hard for me to enjoy. I don't think it adds anything

This is a super entertaining album, tons of great tracks, lots of interesting stuff going on in the production without it ever being too much. Plays like a big budget Hollywood action film. Only problems are that I think he got a bit carried away with the high frequencies/hi pass filtering on the vocals. I can't crank it in my headphones without those sharp consonant sounds tearing up my earholes. I can't help but wonder if he's just lost the upper range of his hearing past 12k or something. Highlights: Loose Canons, Deep Water, Genocide, One Shot On Kill. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I've heard good things.
