Floating Points - Elaenia

I generally don't like when musicians in this genre go too organic and soft (Dorian Concept or Mount Kimbie comes to mind) but this release is freaking lush! It really works as a whole and it's not your standard cheesy let's play some jazz kind of album which I expected. Well, it's still cheesy and jazzy but Floating Points managed to add another layer of quality song making and most of all it shows that he has a feeling which maybe his contemporaries don't have so much. Suuuubtle maaan.

I don't get why a lot of people on WATMM think that this is meh. In my opinion this is one of the most beautiful electronic music albums of the last decade. Every song is beautiful in it's own right, FP really has a stunning attention to detail on this album. From the beautiful Nespole or For Marmish to the great live drum tracks like Silhouttes I,II,III or Peroartion Six. In my opinion Elaenia has one of the most beautiful album finishes ever. The entire album feels dreamy until the last track comes on and suddenly everything gets intenser until it finally, at it's peak intensity, just stops. Abruptly. Everytime I hear the ending to Peroration Six I get goosebumps. Holy fuck this album does so much with only 7 tracks. Just close your eyes and enjoy every little detail of this beautiful electronic/jazz/ambient mashup.
