There is still sexism of course, but does feminism seek to address that through political methods? Are there legal measures that would help solve this? (genuine question, I don't have the answer myself)

I'm honestly ignorant of what it is (if anything) feminists want done politically (in the UK/US) - is there is a popular consensus among feminists regarding their political aims, if they have specific political aims? (which would be intended to solve the problem of sexist attitudes or practices)

most prominent feminists these days would be out of a job if the remaining problems were all sorted out anyway, I'm sure they'd much rather remain wallowing in their victim-hood for a while longer, as long as it keeps paying at any rate.

caze, the uncertanty that is introduced makes the whole notion of genetic effect very shaky, it absolutely does put the findings in question. it pretty much provides what's called an alternative explanation, this is essential on all proper research.

It does nothing even remotely similar to providing an alternative explanation. It highlights certain things which may be used to provide an alternative explanation, but fails to package it up into a coherent model, let alone provide any actual evidence that it (whatever *it* is) is true. I'm not saying such criticism isn't beneficial, pointing out methodological issues is a vital part of doing good science, but you're acting like this stuff isn't well known by the scientists doing the research, it is, and has been addressed in various other research (some of which I've linked to and you've unsurprisingly ignored; this includes twin studies, which your article only tangentially talked about), and will continue to be addressed. Meanwhile, most political and sociological research about which this thread's supposed antagonists are a reaction to fail to measure up to even the most basic empirical standards, basing their ideologies on notions pulled whole-cloth from their asses.

i dont have the energy to wade through your tldr where you allegedly provided some super ultra amazing study that rises above the criticism of adoption/twin studies, if you really feel like continuing this then post it again and I'll address it.

If you're too lazy to go back a couple of pages I'm not going to help you out. No doubt you'll just continue ignoring all the salient points I'm making anyway.

it does exactly that, points to possible alternative explanation for found associations, for example how alleged genetic effect can in fact be society's attitudes to particular physical appearance and highly affect the person's life chances, self esteem and thus educational attainment and intelligence, and this is backed by research. it's enough to contradict the original findings. it doesn't have to fucking wrap it in some model because the needed research has already been done. it's a clear example of a very much possible spurious relationship.

the thing you don't realize is that scientific fields are not always aware, purposely or not, of other fields' findings. the evo-psychs and sociobiologists' conception of culture and society and how they affect people is primitive and they simply can't fathom that the aforementioned effects can play a role and thus ignore them completely in their studies, see literally all adoption studies.

neat thread guys, now can we start one about how black people are just imagining things when they get shot by the police?

The most powerful man on the planet is the president of the United States of America and he is black so that means that black people have all the powerful jobs in the world too just like white people do so everything is all equal and no inequality exists I know this from my life experience of turning on the television and seeing Barack Obama on there quite regularly and really all black people need to stop complaining all the time and being Nazis imo wtf is wrong with them.

I'm still waiting for these mind blowing facts that somehow prove the gender pay gap is a myth to be posted by someone. Genuinely can't wait for that, please post asap.

There are equality laws in place so there's not really much politically to be done, the issue is social. As long as there are idiots going around acting like feminism is pointless and shit and women need to shut up, there will be a need for feminism.

it doesn't have to be that research. literally any case of identical twins developing different personalities, self perceptions, educations or whatever, will show the merit of such explanation, which of course isn't uncommon at all.

you can't complain about one piece of research not controlling for all available factors, and hand wave it away with some anecdote when it's not convenient. and as to whether identical twins can develop different personalities, this is a straw man, I don't think you really have a good handle on what behavioural geneticists are proposing at all.

The internet is a place for fun and porn. This is neither fun nor porn... so lets get on that.

I like the fact that I revealed it and was ridiculed for it, it further exacerbates my point that men have social expectations placed upon them as well based solely on their gender. How many women are ridiculed for the same thing? Not really any. Anyway it's not like I'm actually stuck living with my parents as my only option, I could leave right now and be fine financially, in fact probably be far better off financially than the majority of idiots in this thread.

Anyway this thread is now a cesspool of retardation and feminist ideology. Hyper-liberal morons conflating multiple unrelated issues, "Homophobia still exists therefore wage gap and patriarchy" yeah okay

Edited by Zeffolia

"Wahh male tears" yeah okay make my points even more clear that male issues are completely ignored despite their obvious existence.

I'd say males being the majority of homeless people and committing the most suicides, as well as having the highest workplace death rate by 10x, is a pretty serious issue. But no, since it's the case for men not women nobody cares. Like I have said many times, if these things applied to women instead they would be the new #1 feminist talking point

lol how does males having issues somehow preclude the fact that there is still gender discrimination?

you realize both genders can have issues right?

shutup bitch before I crush you with my wallet

keep claiming people are idiots and morons, that history doesn't matter, that statistics don't matter, etc.

genius

I've never once claimed that statistics don't matter but okay. All I said was that you're over-applying extremely generalized statistics that literally don't account for any factor at all except gender.

You know what, I'm so sick of people fucking misrepresenting everything I have said. Where the fuck have I said there is no gender discrimination? Please find a direct quote or literally fuck right off. You people are completely incapable of having a reasonable debate, probably because of your emotional investments in the issues.

Literally this whole thread you've constantly insulted people, called them retarded, and outright denied that women are disadvantaged.

How you sleep at night I have no idea. Probably with dad rocking you gently to sleep after your haircut, but whatevs.

Oh my fucking god. No I haven't, I'm the only one being insulted. I've called everyone retarded like once or twice, but only after I've had a constant stream of insults thrown at me by you and others, have you even read this thread? And my claims of retardation are regarding the quality of posts not people in particular. Yet your peoples' insults are very personal. Anyway who gives a fuck stop being so sensitive

I have never "outright denied that women are disadvantaged" in particular ways. So are fucking men that is all I'm saying, so is everyone.

All I've said is that western women, as a whole, are not oppressed, and that many feminists talking points are just outright untrue. And that it's fucking ridiculous to even suggest that as the case given a basic observation of reality.
