If Britain get a sweet deal on brexit other member countries could start jumping ship as well. I don't think it's going to happen.

first of all, it won't be a sweet deal, it'll be the least bad deal. and after the chaos that's ensued, especially the drop in the pound, I don't think anyone's really that keen. it'd be even worse for Euro countries as well. we might see a rise in some far-right/far-left movements here and there, but all that'll do is force the mainstream parties to pull back from the integrationist German model.

I don't understand why people think leaving the EU will put us in a negative economic situation.

Facts:

- The EU/US deal is going sour and might not happen at all depending who the next President is - because the EU are demanding too much (as usual)

- We are 350m/whateverM a day better off to start with.

- India, China, and Russia all want to deal with us directly.

- Farmers in the UK who sell a product no one wants to buy at a price too high for market value and instead rely on government subsidies might be forced to use their considerable land to produce something people do want. Like solar power.

- We can actually govern our own country and make our own decisions.

- We could, if we wanted to, start manufacturing in the UK again because there is no EU telling us that it is too pollutive.

All I am seeing from leavers is bleating about the poor farmers (and they aren't even farmers themselves) and how the UK is going to go bankrupt even though every shred of factual evidence argues otherwise. When you get into a heated debate with these clowns they quickly move on to calling you a cunt, telling you how they hope you die from Cancer, and sometimes...death threats.

check Adam Smith here

1st and foremost:

2ndly, we'll see how much the BofE pumps into quantitative easing first

3rd, in your spare time between divining entire national & continental economic futures, why not just knock out a PhD thesis or 2 on these solid facts you've summarized, or more profitably start an economics consultancy in the city while there's still a banking sector left in the capital..... better be quick doe, the rats are deserting this sinking ship quicker than you can say "£250billion bonus from Mark Carney"

I just want to say that although nationalising rail and energy seems like a good idea, anyone who remembers British Rail in the 80s will understand that just because something is nationalised doesn't mean it will be any good. In fact it would very likely be utterly useless. Just because something works on the continent don't mean it'll all be roses and sunshine here...

I'm conflicted over rail privatisation. Generally I'm pretty free-market oriented, rail is basically a natural monopoly though, the kind of tendering/multi-year contract basis for competition just doesn't work at creating an effective and competitive market. You're right though, things weren't much better when national rail ran the whole show, and it's unlikely to fix things overnight. Continental rail systems are definitely better than the UK's though.

I would also be massively in favour of a nationalised nuclear energy system (or a partnership system). Propping up fossil fuel with government subsidies is incredibly immoral though IMO (they already benefit from massive unfair advantages as it is).

I'd be more inclined to look upon nationalised energy favorably if it wasn't for British Gas who are some of the worst cunts imaginable

also, to those talking about socialism and how it's the way forward, whilst also bemoaning leaving the EU - you do realise the EU is a huge capitalist construct that was created largely for the purpose of lowering boundaries to trade and business (i.e. money). there's very little about the EU that is grounded in socialism imo although it appears to have been successfully spun this way to people.

I'd say the minimum wage, maximum working hours etc, and free movement along with fair and clear trading standards are pretty socialist BCM.

This, plus the thing that you can throw a dart at the map of europe and whereever it lands you're pretty much guaranteed to have a minimal level of living standards.

depends what you mean by 'minimal level' I guess. look at the spanish and greek youth unemployment rates. social security systems are creaking around much of europe as well, france is in particularly bad shape there (hence the recent changes in the law there preceding the recent rioting).
