I'm hardly a closed minded nun. Remember, I'm on a fucking IDM forum.... an IDM forum.. Think about that for a second before claiming people are closed minded nuns.

Not sure what to think of the whole limited cassette thing for such a high profile release, seems a bit scammy.

meh, I've "aquired" so much of his older stuff digitally in the past I don't mind hemorrhaging money for a tape. and i have an irrational love of cassettes. it's a win win for me.

The last thirty seconds or so when it's got that darker set of notes - that's pretty good. The sort of stuff I used to love him for.

The rest? If it didn't have the name 'Aphex Twin' attached to it or had no RDJ association, no-one on WATMM would give a fuck.

Needless to say, I keep out of the sub-forum for fear of death.

Aw come on, it’s not that bad. Granted this whole “analog storytelling” (JK, tha ’matte, etc.) style is no longer revolutionary or anything, but it’s still a nice track with nice sections and nice musical transitions.

Also it’s AMAZING that he got the actual 12-year-old kid who did the minipops fan video to do this real video. So awesome.

Oh come on now, that isn't true. Just because you think it's not so great doesn't mean other people think the same way. Even when i'm trying to be as objective as possible with it, it's still such a damn good track. It's not "revolutionary" or anything but that's not really the point of this release. It's just a very very very well produced track. Even if someone registered an account on here and uploaded it onto EKT with no explanation what-so ever, it'd get plenty of praise and attention. Of course not as much as it doesn't have the name "Aphex Twin" on it but I'm pretty sure that it would become a board favorite.

Look at acts such as Rolando Simmons. Is that Aphex? No. Rolando Simmons makes incredible tracks and gets amazing praise here.

lol

The not giving a fuck thing is partially true however It depends on who YOU are though as it isn't an ultimatum that applies to everybody. This track was in my top 5 in the SC dump, and there was plenty I didn't care for in the dump. I could care less if afx made it or joe nobody.

Also, the track reminds me of ageispolis now since it was posted as a video! It's just like a more contemporary aphex version of ageispolis... the funk is there :)

Encouraging this practice of selling them as a (presumably highly profitable) premium product might not be win-win for a self-professed tape lover in the long run man. Next thing you know there'll be limited edition $300 cassette boxsets under Christmas trees. But I know what you mean, sometimes I can't resist these things either.

Yeah, I'm probably a bit harsh on RDJ. And they way I write about him often comes off as unnecessarily negative.

It's just that listening to him back in the 90s (like most of us), just the name Aphex was a sign of quality, an expectation of something beautiful, unique and groundbreaking. Everytime, he just knocked it out of the park. He made all those wonderful tunes which is why he's held in such high regard even now.

Obviously everyone has a different take on all the stuff they personally like but I don't think he's been anything other than mediocre since Drukqs.

It's good that he still bothers to release stuff I guess and I'm happy for his many many fans.

OMG so much yessss - you worded it so much better than I could.

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

I hope Richard has gone to meet with those kids, I bet it would make their year.

Do you mean in electronic music in general or the Aphex sphere? That's difficult to say because it's really down to people's own tastes. RDJ doesn't make music anywhere near the quality he did back in the day.

However, to his credit, no-one has ever come along since and surpassed what he achieved all those years ago.

So what do you think of all the 90's tracks on the soundcloud dump? Cause if you also think their all mediocre there is a strong chance the change is with you not with Aphex.

Anyhow this track one of my favs from soundcloud and sounds so much better now fully mastered, am excited to hear the rest of the ep.
