I really like this style: acid, his 90's emotional melodies, more downbeat and slow with a repetitvness/techno vibe. . that track didnt fit in Syro indeed

as much as I like drukqs and the tuss, i much prefer analords/syro sound and really excited about the EP. I just hope it doesnt sound like deejay selek.

So what do you think of all the 90's tracks on the soundcloud dump? Cause if you also think their all mediocre there is a strong chance the change is with you not with Aphex.

Just heard 28 organ epic for the first time - wow, now that I'd love to see a proper mastered release (with additional tracks in that style)

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

Yeah, I'm probably a bit harsh on RDJ. And they way I write about him often comes off as unnecessarily negative.

It's just that listening to him back in the 90s (like most of us), just the name Aphex was a sign of quality, an expectation of something beautiful, unique and groundbreaking. Everytime, he just knocked it out of the park. He made all those wonderful tunes which is why he's held in such high regard even now.

Obviously everyone has a different take on all the stuff they personally like but I don't think he's been anything other than mediocre since Drukqs.

It's good that he still bothers to release stuff I guess and I'm happy for his many many fans.

let go of the past man, it's holding you back.

Yeah, I'm aware that might be my problem.

I actually don't think everything AFX touched in the 90's was automatically gold. I remember feeling downright burnt when I bought Analogue Bubblebath 4 and thought it was tripe. Meh, I've never been as big a fan as others.

Funnily enough, not being a deluxe fanboy 9000 probably means I can enjoy the new stuff more than some others free from the weight of expectations. I thought Syro was pretty good, and I like the new track well enough.

I imagine it'll feel like a more downtempo syro. Honestly, I think he released Orphaned on afx as it is definitely more 'for his fans' than for his more casual fans, with all those microtonal melodies. Cheetah is definitely going to be more straightforward, which is why he's probably releasing on aphex twin. His casual fans will dig it.

I have a few friends whom I got into aphex but the only releases they really like from the past 2 years are Syro. One likes CCAI. He also liked Drukqs though.

If he released the music he made in the 90s now, I bet you people would be shrugging big time. If you don't beliebe me I'll go travel through the fifth dimension to find an alternate timeline where he releases Syro in the 90s and SAW in 2016 and bring back the mp3s to prove it.

To me all of his releases are like one huge body of work, and you can always enjoy the classic stuff, and the new stuff is like filling in the blanks in between and different directions and nuances. There is so much it is hard to overplay anything before going to another favorite. The music is all recorded, so you can take a break or go back. For me the biggest revelation was on youtube where I could listen to the past releases I never heard. And then the soundcloud dump, that literally fills in blanks of the older releases, and a lot of textures and longer tracks.

Anyway a lot of times some tracks impact you right away, some don't so much but most of them I find are very interesting in some way. The things I don't respond to right away I listen to more sporadically and it can be a nice surprise or like a cool down track.

sounds like an EOD throwaway track
