Behringer making a better analog poly than Korg and Roland? WTF world is this?

i know how you feel. tbh i think behringer got a bad rap by the gear crowd. i'm sure they've had plenty of duds but there's no reason why they'd be completely incapable of pulling off something great. surely they would have the resources to conduct the right amount of research and insight into what makes a great product.

I mean, I understand the hate they get

Their entire business model has (so far) been to copy everything just a pube shy of violating copyright law, which some see as making money by exploiting flaws in copyright law...(you know, , "SORNY")

I don't know how I feel about it, as I haven't spent much time thinking about copyright...but imagine taking a Harry Potter book and 'search, replace'-ing words until your lawyer deemed it lawsuit-proof...

What's the Virtualizer Pro a ripoff of? I'd really like to know, because it has one of the most lush reverbs, and probably the best vocoder I've heard. Plus some really lovely clean filters.

Not always shy, early on they got caught literally cloning Mackie products (what I've heard is that Mackie deliberately his distinct identifying marks in the trace patterns of one of their mixers and identified the same patterns in the traces of the corresponding Behringer model). In fact, I think a lot of Behringer's bad reputation comes from that period when they were forced to stop cloning Mackie boards but didn't have their own designs (in house or purchased) weren't really up to snuff yet.

I was talking to someone last week who used to run a live sound company and he absolutely swears by the higher end Behringer boards that were made since they were bought by the same holding company as Midas and apparently incorporated some Midas designs into their own. I haven't tried one myself or anything but it's definitely interesting.

So yeah. It's a 12voice poly!

I came in here to post this.

Seriously interested now. I have a feeling running this through the chorus in my RS-09 would get me close enough to Juno territory that I could stop regretting not buying one of my own back when they were easy to find well under $600 (which was not that many years ago) and half the people I knew had one.

yeah 12 voices is so insane it almost makes me feel like it can't be cool. 5 is the sweet spot. 8 is pure indulgence. but 12? might as well just play a piano.

If they make it multitimbral I won't be able to resist.

Also, lol

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

I know it's Behringer but I bet this will be quite pricey - for what it is compared to other analogue polys I'm sure it'll be a good deal, but it's got to be close to £1000 innit

yeh if its really 12 voice, which to me seems like overkill unless its multitimbral. i think a multitimbral analog is a bit tricky to pull off, so if it has that too then it'd almost have to be $$$

It's DCO I imagine but still, that does not matter at all.

I really hope it has no effects and limited patch memory. Especially keeping the presets down to a minimal.

Just a straight, simple, good sounding poly please.

I'm guessing it will have both though as a good many users will want them - you will hopefully be able to bypass the effects.

Don't forget it's a Behringer, so they will have ripped off Elektron style P-locking sequencer for sure or dem fools are slippin'......

12 voices isn't overkill if you think about the ability to sustain chords over each other

My mate borrowed a Prophet a few years back and was like "oh I get it now"

I'm used to working with 4 voices

and the ability to move from one chord to the next without needing reverb to smooth out the transitions would be boss as all get-out

If you've got your own factory in China there's no particular reason why you couldn't produce a 12 voice poly on the cheap using smt, either synth on a chip, or multiple ics or even discrete. I suspect it will be 12 oscillators going into 6 filters, so 12 voice paraphonic rather than polyphonic, essentially a trad 2 oscillator per voice synth with each osc individually triggerable and tuneable.

Might get splits, doubt fully multitimbral, but then my cheetah ms6 managed 6 voice timbrality 25 years ago, so who knows.
