Massive disappointments from artists you love

I used to think the same about Squarepusher but as Joyrex said above somewhere, there are some killer cuts hidden away on Hello Everything (Planetarium, Rotate Electrolyte, Welcome To Europe and Plotinus amoung them)

I went from "Brown" to "In Sides" and then to "Amber" and "Tri Repetae". Orbital were basically the IDM introduction for me (sophisticated, experimental electronic music that is).

I discovered Plaid only many years later and have never been a true fan. Strongest Orbital > strongest Plaid imo.

exactly, that's in my humble opinion if you were into Orbital in 94/96 you could make the transition into Autechre. I guess Autechre took a sudden leapforward (as you said Envane/Chiastic Slide) but before then in they were perhaps evenly matched.

i'm just thinking about friends I knew at the time who were into Prodigy or Chemical Bros and putting on Autechre they wouldn't of been into it, (not party music), but I think your average Orbital fan would of kicked back and got stuck in

I'm also pretty drunk and need to get off watmm, 'cause I'm mashed and fear I'm only making minimal sense to myself

Then perhaps Deserters Songs had a few moments but still if you were a fan of the first album you were going to feel that some of the magic had gone, and really that was it from them. I'd always hear their new singles off subsequent albums and think to myself what the fuck is that???!!!

Chris Ott (shallow rewards) mentioned that in one of his podcast / video blurbs. For the longest time I knew them b/c they were on a Chemical Brothers song so when I checked their stuff out I limited to their early albums and EPs. They really dropped off into mediocre alt-rock-ville after Boces

I don't know if I mentioned this before but Skream has been pretty disappointing, his amen break rave-y stuff was kinda fun but I stopped even paying attention after 2011 or so

last Clams Casino album was dull as hell

I absolutely love Deserter's Songs, such an atmospheric, beautiful album. Obviously it's unrecognisable as the same band as the early stuff, but as an album of its own right I think it's almost faultless. I think the drop-off is pretty fast after that, though. It was put together as their last album as they thought their career was over, but when it became a hit they carried on and seemed to lose all the inventiveness. DS was pieced together in a fascinating way - for all its orchestral sound, there were only a couple of string players plus mellotrons and such, and members played loads of different instruments; when they did All is Dream, they reverted to four-piece band plus guest orchestra and it all became incredibly safe. I don't mind All is Dream, it's a pleasant enough indie record, but compared to the four that came before it's incredibly lightweight. After that they petered off into self-parody.

Keep meaning to respin Deserters Songs it must be 10 years since I heard it. I think it was a bit more reserved than Yerself Is Steam, but felllow watmm you are right, it is indeed chokka full of great tunes.

Agreed, Silent Alarm got some tunes on it.

And always meant to but never got round to listening to Medulla, 'cause on paper (in the reviews) it sounds like it should be amazing, but tbh I've never been the worlds greatest Bjork fan.

Medulla has some gorgeous tracks on it, but overall it definitely feels like what it is - an experiment.

I love Bjork but that album is wonky

Nine Inch Nails: Everything after The Fragile is paint by numbers. It's actually so formulaic that it has weakened the material that preceded it. His soundtrack work, on the other hand, seems slightly more adventurous. 

Just had to endure Jack White on Jools Holland.

White Stripes up to Elephant were pretty special. Get Behind Me Satan I'd like to revisit, maybe Icky Thump. I dunno. All I do know is watched them play at Brixton Academy years ago and it was fucking ace. For the last decade this man gets on my tits, something about him which winds me up. All his music with the Dead Weather and Racountoors (spelling!!!) I'm very dubious about. He's obviously very talented but I think he's a bit of a bell-end. Maybe I'm wrong. All I know is once-upon-a-time I used to really be into his music, know when his face appears I just want to instantly switch him off. So you tell me...

Well I remember distinctly when the Raconteurs first album came out he (JW) was shooting his mouth off in the NME saying it was the 'next Nevermind' it was the next great punk record. Lol.
