The music was beyond excellent and one high thing off the bucket list. Thank you all for the awesome times and VIP access phonic boy. We never failed once! Amazing weekend and top notch set of course. Meeting fellow watmmers and other random ppl who ended up in the discord was a blast. Awesome to meet some of your right away Friday night, my roomie phudo of course, XXX and Drew (a.k.a. 'whitley striber') who we have to thank for the discord idea. I used my VIP access (that I bought on a drunken whim on my birthday) and Drew tagged right along, was right up front for Aphex, not to mention hang out Friday night at VIP. Was really neat to meet Joyrex as well as everyone else hanging around (boom, joshuatx, lopez, lada, juiceciuj, guidewire, sean, katt, halluciphile and everyone else I forgot) On 12/21/2016 at 7:55 PM, joshuatx said: ^ Well said. Shout out to everyone I met, wish I had more time and better discord access to meet more ppl but wow what a busy weekend. Randomly ran into 'Goiter Sanchez' when standing out front Saturday holding onto a few of the aphex vinyls (nabbed a copy for phudo) and just started talking. Obed
On 12/21/2016 at 7:38 AM, guidewire said: This trip to see Aphex was a such an import one to me. Richard has been a continuous inspiration over the years. Over the last few years I've been pretty religiously listening to live recordings. I almost listened to the unreleased tracks every day since I don't know when to Syro. I've toiled over the Tuss tracks and the Analord tracks. Other artists have come and gone, but I've always felt he offered more. When I was in highschool in the 90s he really opened my eyes to the possibilities of music and I started making inspired by that. In 2005 I saw him play at glade and that marked the end of my university life. I've been on here since 2011. In 2011 I got married to Avril 14th playing as I walked down the isle. This show marked my 10th anniversary of me taking myself seriously as an artist, meeting my wife and being in a crazy job where I get to mess with sound and crazy tech like virtual reality for a living. Coming to the fest, meeting a bunch of the WATMM MASSIVE, dancing together and talking about a bunch of this shit we are obsessed with got me all weepy and happy. Chatting on discord with watmm crew was fun while everyone wormed around the fest. Seeing and hearing this massive show and being in this epic weather system change (while my wife texted me to tell me how important she knew this was to me) was cinematic and the GREATEST THING EVER. Having this mystery record pop up ( GOT ONE !) and seeing it show up in the crowd and internet was alot of fun to be apart of. I hope I get to experience one or two more of these before I can't hear anything and I can't move anymore. It's weird. I love it! phudoshin
My review: Journeying: I drove 4 hours from West of Ireland Thursday night to Dublin, picked up some weed, stayed with my mate then next morning took the plane Dublin->London->Houston! (left the weed with her - i'm not that dumb!) Landing at about 8pm it really all started on the shuttle bus from Bush to downtown when as soon as this uber annoying businessman got off - one conplaining mofo! - I asked the hot girl beside me "you going to day for night?" She turned out to be Kattin who is now a friend for life and in an amazing and lovely coincidence saw me off at my gate at Bush on Monday afternoon. So I got dropped off before her, but knew i'd see her again! Friday: PhonicBoyOndope (PBoD - chris) was my roomy and had organised the hotel which was 10 mins form the venue. He'd a VIP ticket so was doing the pre-party at DFN while i got onto discord and realised that loads of wattm crew were heading to Cygnus and co at Satellite bar. Grabbed a cab and hit the "prefix" party. Here I met juiceiuj and hos lovely wife, a couple form Kansas (sorry forgot their handles) and a few more. I was pretty wrecked but a few beers and dances later I came through the other side. juiceiuj introd me to Richard Devine who i spotted outside - so yeh - i did get to take to "Richard" lol. Near the end of Cygnus's set (he was fantastic - so into it all!) I went out for a smoke and bumped into PBoD who id not ,met yet and WhitleyStriber (Drew) who made it from what sounded like a so-so pre-party at dfn ....and it really felt like i'd arrived - we dance, chatted, joked and eventually uber'd our way back to downtown with an idm loving ex-navy cab guy who played Aphex, Boards and Ulrich Van Schnause for us. It was quite muggy at about 22 degrees C and so sleep came quickly. Energy need ed to be saved.... Saturday: Next day me and PBoD got up at 12ish and were figuring out what to do - obviously a beery brunch was the first thing so hit Flying Saucer and people-watched the aphex t-shirts walking by, the sizzling bar-girls and generally got to know each other.... discord was buzzing with activity and it was when we hit the hotel again for showers that the news of "unreleased Aphex vinyl" at the merch counter at D4N was out there.. "fuck the shower" we agreed and made our way. Of course i'd to still collect my wristband and so PBoD went in ahead to secure some whitelabels for us both. That was the last I saw of him till after aphex's set!! So i was in at last and bumped into Kattin and Duncan (forget his handle) who'd gotten their vinyls - you could see many people clutching them - I forget where thy were going but we parted and i found myself wandering over toward Thundercat after meeting guidewire from Canada, clutching his vinyl. Discord wasn't working on-site any more so i couldn't get in touch with Chris or the rest to see if my vinyl was gotten/safe/back-in-the-hotel or what. But I knew he wouldn't let me down and turns out he didn't! Thundercat was groovy enough for my first gig there but later on I went with guidewire to Casino Clams and danced the fuck out of it to his amazing deep bassy beats and excellent visuals..... the party was now on! guidewire persuaded me to go see OPN and i wasn't familiar with his sound but knew it was kinda off kilter and trippy. It took while but i really got into its fucked up structures and bizzaro visuals - really enjoyed that in the end. A nice surprise We then went for a much need burger and chilled at the diner area near the red stage, where Odessa was on (sounded terrible) and ....soon to be raging Aphex Twin! d'Twin We got a spot to the right of centre in a packed crowd - luckily it was on a sort of raised kerb so got a good view of the visuals and stage. Aphex came out, was shown on the large screens with his signature concentration and the Weirdcore visuals kicked in very nicely. I think they distracted me for a the first 20 mins and i was scoping out the vibe (more or less typical weirdcore stuff - nothing that new from previous shows except for the WW3 global map graphics and aphex bombs). As you know from the quickly uploaded sets, the set followed the usual excellent pattern - disjointed slow n squelchy jams followed by slowly building breaks with sprinllings of aphex tunes building up into proper hardcore raving - Nigtmail was a particual fave - a 100% nod to the venue - the old post office, I somehow didn't hear the Polynomial C rinse but the vibe, the mixing the energy was all classic RDJ DJ'ing. It was my 13th time seeing him and as amazing as the rest! The temperature had some how dropped to near freezing and the rains came for a bout 20 mins halfway through - zapped by lasers and spattering on top of 12" vinyl "umbrellas" by total idiots who would rather pretend to be dry than mind their rare wax!! The mind boggles! Now and then the visuals got really funny and I loved the end swirls and final shot of Aphex's "duckface" looped up. Id no idea that he had to shelter under a tarp on stage but the giant visual screens had been lowered due to wind earlier on. The weather didn't subdue the spiris at all and soon cleared for mere coldness ... but RDJ pounded us with warming beats. Overall a fantastic set, quite typical but tons of gems and old faves like Squarepushers acid whuitelabel "rome" track. Aftermath: Being completely energized we made our way back the blue stage for some excellent hip-hop and bass music from Soulection LA crew which got me grimin and grooving til the am. My and guidewire decided not to bother finding the after-party and I had a very fucking cold walk back to the hotel where Drew and Chris had just arrived drinking the last of the beers and regaiing me with stories of meeting joyrex, the aphex VIP section and just the whole damn experience of our lives! Sunday: We got up at 12ish and hit discord for all the news and excitement. Kattin, Duncan and some others were at the Honeymoon eatery so we joined them for lunch ... I forget who was there but half of them left and Kattin, Sean from Japan/North Carolina and Drew stated and we had many coffees and banter. Drew lefty for Daed as we finshed our food . It was alovely relaxed afternoon and we all wraped up well for the festival this time heading for Lightning Bolt at 5ish. We met xxx (John) and I instantly befriended yet another watmm crew with all sorts of connections via the forum. I really enjoyed Lignting bolt them having seen them before and we got into the vibe of day 2. I'd seen Anklepants on Bolierroom tv and fancied he'd be great live but when we swung around to the yellow stage it was truly shit with real crappy sound and nothing at all happening tbh. Squarepusher Time for food so we all grabbed some K-dogs/waffles burgers and hit the food tend where Kattin and Dunclan met us and we got our shit together for some major squarepusher action. Rhe festival didn;t seem as busy and we got the perfect spot centre centre. Tom arrived onstage in a duffle coat sorting his sound out and then appeared in his fencing gear (still dont; get that!) and finished us with amazing beats, melodies and tweaks from DF album and classics like Venus 17, steinbol and modern bass guitar. He never did pick up his bass which was behind hi - it was very cold - but we all agreed it was a monster show. I had initially hoped for new or older stuff but in the end the set he played sounded so good it was perfect. I recorded it on my ipod via voice recorder but have still to retrieve it! Butthole Surfers: Duncan was adamant that we check these guys out. Id heard of them for years and my mates back home are bug fans but jesus they were fucking awesome!! Totally trippy tracks captured the waning festival vibes and between the music, the utterly twisted visuals, the smoke and the main guys grand kid playing drums, I think everyone utterly enjoyed it! Lots of funny visuals that though you - dat monkey! Afterparty: Maybe because of the new energy the surfers gave us we all thougt it was a good idea to hit mine and PBoD's hotel for beer and tunes - It worked out so great listening to Kattins french horn tracks, Duncans jungle/breakcore, my keyfumbler noodles (including a mini bathrooom rave), Kattins hilarious smirfle video and general funtimes. I let itunes play RDJ's soundcloud tracks on random and they seemed perfect. Everyone eventually dispersed and we drifted to sleep with Rhubarb/Stone in focus reversed - a perfect entry to stoner slumberland. Going home: PboD left before me picking up Drew for Bush airport and I arranged do hopefully meet them and Kattin in the afternoon there. When i arrived PBoD was legging it out to get a taki - wrong airport! thankfully he made it as his flight was delayed!! I then made my way all the way to the gate to find Drew, Phil and Kattin - we had time to eat together before Phil left and then myself and Katting hunted for souvenirs and passed under a crazy domed echochamber which momentarily shifted our voices and caused us to crack up laughing down the concourse. Eventually ti was time to say goodbye and we parted ways in the nicest way possible knowing we'd see each other again soon.... Writing this now im overwhelmed with thanks for meeting everyone, hanging out with the biggest RDJ fans ive ever met and feeling like these are the moments to cherish forever. So thank you Richard too. Never will I forget Houston 2016 - a very merry Texas Aphexmas to all y'all! xxx Ps: Get me at: https://www.facebook.com/amartinezzz https://beta.mixcloud.com/keyfumbler/ https://soundcloud.com/keyfumbler https://www.youtube.com/user/thekeyfumbler/videos Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide phudoshin's signature Hide all signatures Live sets from Squarepusher, Aphex Twin and Autechre New album 2024: https://keyfumbler.bandcamp.com/album/japanese-tea-ceremony-2 Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/91512-day-for-night-festival/page/42/#findComment-2512063 Share on other sites

I expect 50 at the lowest, probably 100 give or take. I'll either have a reserve of $25 + s/h auction style on ebay or list it on discogs once some copies sell and an average price is established. I dunno, that seems honest enough while not ignoring the actual supply/demand. TBH I rather have a RDJ completist have my copy than myself. BoomTssPhace
I wish i had stood more near the middle of the crowd. I wish i didnt have to carry my record around. I wish i had danced harder. All these things and i still wouldnt have actually changed a thing. There was something in those two hours that made me feel i was exactly where i needed to be, in the right place at the right time. By about halfway through, there was definitely a vibe amongst the crowd that we were witnessing a culmination of events that would never come together again. It all really peaked at the very end when Rich himself, the man that changed my entire view of music when i was 13, whose work i was initially frightened by, then obsessed with, the one that instilled my fetishization of roland machines, that made me accept my strange penchant for the odd and fucked up forms of art out there, whose creations have soundtracked a plethora of experiences throughout my life...walked out onto stage less than 100ft away from me. I was seeing a legend, an idol, a hero, but with my own two eyes, not on a jumbotron, or a record sleeve, or a distorted youtube video.
