OK, "Kappafects" really isn't that great

but otherwise this is sexy shit!

also "Evensong" is one of the better tracks on the album "even" if the "song" has some odd synthetic-vocals

What I've always loved most about his stuff is that he can write really melodic pieces that also have an underlying sense of unease - it's that contradiction that I've always found to be really alluring.

Just got round to hearing my FLAC purchase from Bleep. Oddly they've been encoded at 16bit/96khz though appear to just be regular 44.1khz files with a 22050Hz frequency cap. That extra 26khz of silence though ... musical nulls to my ears:

 

I'd like to know where all the reviews are?

 

Pitchfork, Consequence Of Sound etc. I thought they would be all over this - particularly since it has been ten years since the last album. 

Fucking tasty album! My favourite track is Vapour 2.

Never listened to Bola before this. I quite like this album, I am kinda surprised at how cohesive and unforced it sounds for having been so many years in the making. I don't mind the Vocaloid in Evensong at all. Another artist for me to dive into as I have time... sweet.

I got worried with the criticism of the vocal tracks, but the vocals didn't stand out as much as I expected. Quite nice. The rest of the tracks are genuine and vintage Bola, though. A solid release overall. This after just one thorough listen.

Totally thought the opening vocal thing on the first track was a massive time stretched belch.

its okay. A bit rigid and clean. Enjoyable though.

I wonder why, AFAIK bleep doesn't have any particular standard FLAC format so far. Guess I'll just re-encode the FLAC at 44.1 to save space on my phone (not that I could hear the difference anyway).

Oh my. Finally just received this in the mail today (Amazon delayed it and delayed it for some reason), and I love it. I have to admit, reading the thoughts posted in this thread had me bracing myself a bit for something that I might not like. I loved "Fyuti", but I didn't really like the vocals on "Pae Paoe" very much, so when I read about the vocals on "D.E.G." I started to get worried. But I actually love the vocals on this new album--they fit really well. I especially love "Evensong", despite the lack of love it's received here for the most part. 

I agree. Evensong is one of the best tracks on a very good album.

^ yeah I've meant to write something to the effect of the above, late to the party but pleasantly surprised at how good this is.  And yeah, what vocals appear on it are on the same wavelength as those on earlier albums, never too overbearing or anything.  Y'all has us thinkin this was a Andy Stott album or summat

yes it's v good. Loved the vocals. some incredible moments in vintage bola style.

herzzatzz makes me feel like a teenager again.. discovering idm and getting excited about the journey that awaited me

I'd only heard this in full one time before copying it onto my phone, and must've ran out of space on the SD card as it only copied up to Pelomen Vapour 3. So for the past few months (until today hearing it in full again) I totally forgot that the last two tracks existed and honestly think the album works so much better without them.

 

Without Kappafects and Maghellen it ends on that big 'trilogy' of tracks with the final part of the third Pelomen Vapour sounding like a proper resolve to the entire album (rather than ending with that really out of place vocal track, followed by a golf game option-screen music that only really gets interesting in the final couple of minutes)
