Enjoying the 0-coast, it's really nice to just fuck around with on the couch, for the first time in a long time I haven't felt the pressure to record everything I come up with.. though I do come up with some great patches and have to take photos; dog and mario pyjamas included because why the fuck not

Nice :) I want an 0-coast soon. I just got my bit ranger and it's glorious, also a lovely couch synth. Haven't plugged it into any external gear yet, just getting weird baroque melodies, gnarly stereo drones, and other SID-esque synced square wave madness.

These little semi-modulars are dangerous. I'm eyeing that Mutable Instruments Shelves pretty hard right now.

yeah I keep looking at the other make noise stuff and even just looking at the CV inputs of something like the echophon or morphagene makes me think of the ridiculous sound design possibilities.. but the way I see it is, it's either modular or elektron gear, for me at least. I *may* put together a small 3U 19" rack thing at some point, but the octatrack can cover most of what I would do with those make noise modules anyway.. except for audio rate LFOs I guess.

I ordered a Behringer UCA222 to hook up to the Pi and yesterday hacked a looper to my pure data patch. Next up is to figure out the best control layout mapping for the Akai, because I'm already at 8 pages of 8 CCs and I need at least two more pages to accomodate for both audio and midi looper controls.

..and also I should actually spend more time playing the thing not making more and more mods.

Yeah I'm sure that will be enough

lol yeah

I saw a friend's eurorack setup balloon from 4 tiny doepfer modules in a cute little rack to a two row thing about 4x the size within a couple of weeks, so I'd better watch out.

anyone knows how much a dr bohm digital drums might cost?

found only one sold on ebay for $1500

Jeez. Thanks for the warning. I keep thinking that not having a 6 figure income is keeping me safe from crippling modular addiction and I could discipline myself to be constrained to an 84hp skiff as long as I don't hang out on muff wiggler too much but I'm probably being naïve.

I took me 5 months to fill a 6U 104hp case... and I just bought a new 9U 140hp case...

Unfortunately, I think the type of person that easily becomes addicted to modular is someone who has chronic GAS and likes to pour endless amounts of research into machines.

My friend downstairs has solved the cost problem by only buying modules that are "uncool" but good, secondhand on Reverb mostly.  Hasn't paid more than $50 yet and went from nothing to playing his first all modular show last night in about two and a half weeks.  And he doesn't have a huge income, only a little better than mine.

A beauty/danger of eurorack is it can scale to your ability to pay for it.

I've got to wait a few weeks to have the grounding in my new workshop fixed before I can get set up, but once I do I'm going to dive in myself, but with a strict "DIY only" policy, since that will keep it from getting too out of hand too fast.

I also think I'll be protected by the fact that I really prefer an Arp 2600-style semimodular approach to full modular.

Was just in Berlin and checked out the tanzbar at Just Music. Man, that's the funnest kick machine I've ever played.

Really great sounds straight into the headphones. Sadly, a lot better than dry tempest (unless you have 2 years worth of wizardry and even then)

All the sounds are really freaking good. Little volume knobs on top are sweet too. Which it was cheaper though. Couldn't figured out how to get the step sequencer to work tho!

I'm always GASing for one of those too sheathe. You could always go for a tanzbar lite or a tanzmaus which are about half the price.

You do get a lot of bang for your buck with mfb gear it seems.

yup, which is why I'm reluctant. I'm not quite at "chronic GAS" level yet, but I can imagine modular getting ridiculous lol.

The one thing that keeps me thinking about modular is that it's very relaxing/cathartic to play with. That said though, I even get that out of using the nord modular editor so I should probably stick with that :P

I really like this idea. I'm retarded at electronics though. Probably cheaper to buy a used oscilloscope than your average eurorack module anyway, though, heh.

Yeah to the relaxation point I'm starting to see the value in not having to stare at a screen. I stare at them all day and they kind of hurt my eyes after a while. It's fun to just poke around and explore in a physical way. I mean even the aforementioned Elektrons have digital UIs you have to stare at. I guess even the aforementioned Tanzbar would give you a similar experience. There's plenty of non-modular gear with lots of knobs and no screens.

I found my oscilloscope complete with the manual left out with someone's garbage, no joke.  My signal generator, too.  Different incidents.

Unfortunately I'm also retarded with electronics, but I'm good at soldering and good at building stuff that other people came up with so I can at least do that.  Other people's PCBs and stripboard layouts.

Oh I'm not even very good at soldering, although I did build a Shruthi a long time ago and I also repaired my Microbrute's attack knob and I modded my RSD-10 to remove the dry output.

Nice find on the scope... ha, I don't know how you find all this stuff dude. I almost wonder if it's just that you're in a good region for that but I'm probably just not being resourceful.

Good region.  I don't find that much anymore, but I used to live in Boston and work at a record store that was on the professional trashpickers' circuit for years, between the stuff they'd bring in and the stuff universities throw out I made out really well for a while.

I've already mentioned the Triadex Muse someone found in the trash and tried to sell the owner for $80 (but he wouldn't go above $40), right?

Ha, and I thought I was cool because I bought a 606 from a guy whose dad wouldn't take more than $25 for it.

I wasn't working that day, I still regret missing out on it.

I've played with a Tanzbar at that store, the Tom decay is pretty fun to piss around with and agree that it's not the most easily understood machine. Did you play with the huge modular at all (if it's still there?)

I'm selling my Roli 25 to buy a StudioLogic SL88 Studio (88 keys, piano-like hammer action, with aftertouch). Jamming on my GF's digital piano for the last year or so has been quite an eyes opener, and I can't wait to play Zebra/Diva/Bazille with it.

The SL88 looks gorgeous, let me know what you think of it; I'm thinking of getting something with nice weighted keys when I next have the requisite cash dollar and that looks like exactly the kind of thing I'm after

Rain Over Mountain is out now; 100% of Bandcamp sales are donated to the Motor Neurone Disease Association:

Just got the vermona! This thing is caaaazy! i was so skeptical is great great great! firstly, the build quality... build like a tank, highest quality, build by hand in germany. and the pots! i've never turned such pots. ppl say they're even better than moog's, i agree. it's 20% smaller than i thought it'll be from pictures and videos; sooo cute! only one problem regarding build: It wobbles a bit, it doesn't sit flat on a flat surface. it seems that one of its 'legs' is about 1 mm too short. Not a big problem cause it's stable on th other 3 :)

Now sound.... Well, i'm not gonna say a word about the sound :) ...better listen to your self. i've made just a quick demo, just to show you a few tricks, really just a few (haven't even recorded the hp), cause there's much more to it and i still haven't even read the manual :) ...if you want i can make more of such demos. enjoy! ;)

The first 30 and the last 6-7 sec is the unprocessed signal. the file is downloadable!
