Hey all, I'm a long-term AFX fan and just recorded a piano cover of aisatsana this week. Hope you enjoy it.

Nice, Josh - welcome to WATMM!

I'm going to move this to the Aphex Twin subforum where it is better suited (and will exposure from the folks who would appreciate it the most).

thanks for the post... like the top down view...

just needs a few more birds

Haha I actually did a couple field recordings here in Melbourne and found some great bird samples. Was about to include them and then got cold feet for some reason.

Have you ever played piano while the piano is put on a swing? You might join rdj on his piano on a swing world tour if you can stomach it. :-)

could make the bird noises with your mouth while playing (kind of like that Kate Bush - Aerial song where she turns birdsong into the vocal track of the song).

but you'd have to sing it really quietly to mimic the birds being outside the window.

I have never seen anything like that clip. The piano sounds so out of tune (which I assume is because of the swaying), but I'd love to verify if the piano was tuned before the gig. Rather incredible.

I'm guessing it was. I don't know the technical term, but it's probably the same as when you 'bend 'a guitar while the notes ring out. Gives that subtle pitch wobble/detune effect.

Also great cover!

Thanks very much. It's called the Doppler effect. I'm just amazed at how much of an impact it has on the sound of the piano.

On a side note, I just found a review of my cover at disquiet.com. You can check it out here.

Really glad you didn't add any bird noises to this, the sounds of the piano mechanisms are gorgeous. And the room ambiance sounds great too. And I like the pauses a lot.

Yeah, me too. I spoke with a friend and he said to mix it up a little instead of replicating the track precisely. I do love how closely mic'ed the piano is – you can hear every subtle nuance.
